Oil paint allows us to slow down and truly observe them. \nIn this two-day studio workshop\, we will work from live florals to explore how light moves across petals\, how form turns in space\, and how color relationships create atmosphere. \nRather than rushing toward a polished result\, this workshop emphasizes thoughtful seeing\, strong beginnings\, and confident paint handling. \nAnn will guide participants through: \n\n\nDesigning a compelling still life arrangement \n\n\nSetting up simple\, effective lighting for painting from life \n\n\nEstablishing value structure before chasing color \n\n\nMixing clean\, intentional color relationships \n\n\nDeveloping depth through edge control and temperature shifts \n\n\nKnowing when to pause\, adjust\, or simplify \n\n\nStudents will work toward a resolved floral study over the weekend at their own pace. Individual progress will vary\, and personalized feedback will be offered throughout. \nLive flowers will be provided. \nWhat’s Included\nThe following materials are provided for use during the workshop: \n\n\nProfessional oil paints \n\n\nOne prepared 12×16 painting panel \n\n\nA curated brush set (for use during the workshop) \n\n\nLive floral still life setup \n\n\nStudio mediums and shared materials \n\n\nPrinted handout / reference guide \n\n\nParticipants are welcome to bring their favorite brushes or materials if they prefer. \nPlease note:\nFor studio safety\, no turpentine or solvent-heavy products may be used. We will work with odorless\, low-toxicity mediums only. \nBrush sets used during the workshop will be available for purchase at the conclusion of the weekend. \nSkill Level\nIdeal for: \n\n\nArtists with some drawing or painting experience \n\n\nAcrylic painters curious about oil \n\n\nOil painters wanting to strengthen fundamentals \n\n\nIf unsure whether this workshop is a good fit\, feel free to reach out. \nTuition\nIn-Person Studio Workshop\n$465 per participant\nLimited to 10 painters \nIncludes: \n\n\n10 hours of instruction \n\n\nMaterials for use \n\n\nIndividual feedback \n\n\nPrepared panel \n\n\nLive floral setup \n\n\nOnline Recorded + Live Critique Option\n$295 per participant \nIncludes: \n\n\nAccess to recorded workshop sessions \n\n\nReference photo provided in advance \n\n\nSetup and material guidance \n\n\nLive group critique the following weekend (date announced during workshop) \n\n\nOnline participants must register by March 19 to receive prep instructions. \nRegistration\n\n\nEnrollment limited to 10 in-person participants. \n\n\nRegistration closes March 19. \n\n\nSignups must be completed at least 48 hours in advance. \n\n\nTuition is non-refundable unless a seat can be filled from the waitlist.

In addition to running her retail shop\, she presents workshops and lectures with a focus on houseplants. Cope launched five years ago with the purpose of community building and the desire to learn more about houseplants. Many plants have perished and thrived throughout this journey and Holly’s passion for houseplants has grown in wonderful ways. \nOne year ago Holly moved to Huntsville from the Nashville area with her husband and three children. The family also includes a chinchilla named Michael\, three dogs\, Amya the cat\, several praying mantises\, and a slew of tropical fish and miniature shrimp. In addition to collecting houseplants\, Holly enjoys crocheting Japanese Amigurumi stuffed animals\, and reading British design magazines. SUMMARY:Book Talk: Steven Tom\, The Aviator
DESCRIPTION:Join The Snail on the Wall as we delve into WWI history through Steven Tom’s newest biography\, The Aviator: A Biography of James R. McConnell\, Lafayette Escadrille Fighter Pilot. \nThe event will be at The Snail on the Wall bookstore. Tickets are $5\, with $5 going toward any book purchase at the event. \nGet Tickets Here \nAbout The Aviator:\nJame R. McConnell was a fighter pilot in the famous squadron of American volunteers who fought for the French prior to US entry into World War I\, the Lafayette Escadrille.\nPrior to joining the escadrille\, McConnell served in France as an ambulance driver. He documented the front\, both on the ground and in the air in Flying for France\, a bestselling book published just before his death. A modest character\, Jim included very little information about himself in his book. Even while at the front\, McConnell remained in regular correspondence with his family\, friends\, and girlfriends. A large volume of these original letters are preserved today. \nAbout Steven Tom:\nSteve Tom grew up in northern Indiana\, traveled around the world during a 20+ year Air Force career. When Steve was sixteen his great aunt gave him a copy of “War Letters of Kiffin Yates Rockwell\,” a pioneering World War One pilot. This sparked a lifelong interest in that war and led to “First to Fight\,” the story of Kiffin Rockwell published by Stackpole Books. Steve is a member of the League of World War One Aviation Historians.
