These fascinating insects are most active at dusk\, just as the sun sets and darkness begins to fall. Along the way\, you’ll learn about their life cycle and how to create a firefly-friendly habitat in your own backyard. \nThis program includes an engaging presentation\, a guided evening walk through the Garden\, and an opportunity to catch and release fireflies. We recommend bringing a clean\, dry plastic jar with a lid (such as a mayonnaise jar) for this experience—and don’t forget a flashlight for after dark! \nCapacity is limited\, and advance registration is the best way to secure your spot. She attended Mississippi State University and graduated in 2022 with her bachelor’s degree in Agronomy with a focus on integrated crop management. During her schooling\, she developed a deep love for horticulture and had the opportunity to take many horticulture-based classes and partake in a horticulture student internship. She is currently one of the Garden’s horticulturists. \nLaura Newquist (Assistant)Laura started at the Huntsville Botanical Garden as a butterfly monitor and continues as a gardener. She grew up learning to garden with her mother and continues to garden with her three children. She and her children are currently creating a native flower garden to support butterflies. \n\nAs a nonprofit organization\, the Garden thrives through your support.
