In addition to running her retail shop\, she presents workshops and lectures with a focus on houseplants. Cope launched five years ago with the purpose of community building and the desire to learn more about houseplants. Many plants have perished and thrived throughout this journey and Holly’s passion for houseplants has grown in wonderful ways. \nOne year ago Holly moved to Huntsville from the Nashville area with her husband and three children. The family also includes a chinchilla named Michael\, three dogs\, Amya the cat\, several praying mantises\, and a slew of tropical fish and miniature shrimp. In addition to collecting houseplants\, Holly enjoys crocheting Japanese Amigurumi stuffed animals\, and reading British design magazines. She is a nearly life long vegetarian and loves to shop for vintage housewares and furniture almost as much as she loves cake. \n\nAs a nonprofit organization\, the Garden thrives through your support. Every program and event you enjoy helps fuel our conservation work and mission-driven initiatives. SUMMARY:Book Talk: Steven Tom\, The Aviator
DESCRIPTION:Join The Snail on the Wall as we delve into WWI history through Steven Tom’s newest biography\, The Aviator: A Biography of James R. McConnell\, Lafayette Escadrille Fighter Pilot. \nThe event will be at The Snail on the Wall bookstore. Tickets are $5\, with $5 going toward any book purchase at the event. \nGet Tickets Here \nAbout The Aviator:\nJame R. McConnell was a fighter pilot in the famous squadron of American volunteers who fought for the French prior to US entry into World War I\, the Lafayette Escadrille.\nPrior to joining the escadrille\, McConnell served in France as an ambulance driver. He documented the front\, both on the ground and in the air in Flying for France\, a bestselling book published just before his death. A modest character\, Jim included very little information about himself in his book. Even while at the front\, McConnell remained in regular correspondence with his family\, friends\, and girlfriends. A large volume of these original letters are preserved today. \nAbout Steven Tom:\nSteve Tom grew up in northern Indiana\, traveled around the world during a 20+ year Air Force career. When Steve was sixteen his great aunt gave him a copy of “War Letters of Kiffin Yates Rockwell\,” a pioneering World War One pilot. This sparked a lifelong interest in that war and led to “First to Fight\,” the story of Kiffin Rockwell published by Stackpole Books. Steve is a member of the League of World War One Aviation Historians.

SUMMARY:Monarch Tag & Release
DESCRIPTION:@ \n \n \n\n\n\nAbout the Tag & Release\nEach year\, monarch butterflies take an incredible journey from Canada to Mexico as they seek warmer temperatures to roost over the winter months. Join us for a presentation about monarchs and their migration\, followed by a hands-on tagging of the butterflies. We will even share how you can track the butterflies you tag to see if they make it to Mexico! \nSession Times: \n\n10:00-10:45 a.m.\n11:00-11:45 a.m.\n\n\nPricing\nGarden Member \n\nChild: $8\nAdult: $8\n\nNon-Member (Ticket includes Garden admission for the day) \n\nChild: $20\nAdult: $27\n\n\nRegistration\n\n10:00 AM\n11:00 AM\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n Add to calendar \n\n\n\n \n Google Calendar \n \n\n \n iCalendar \n \n\n \n Outlook 365 \n \n\n \n Outlook Live

These seemingly delicate creatures fly feverishly on pre-determined migration paths\, making quick stops along the way. As part of their journey\, monarchs migrate through Huntsville\, Alabama\, from September through mid-October. \nOn September 27\, we will be “tagging” 100 monarch butterflies (putting a tiny sticker on their dorsal wings) and then releasing them into the Garden\, and we need your help!
