SUMMARY:Listening Is Reading: A Conversation Between Author and Audiobook Narrator
DESCRIPTION:Whether you’re an avid audiobook listener or a reader interested in storytelling\, you’ll want to sit in on this rare conversation between an author and the narrator of her audiobook. Marybeth Whalen is a southern author known for creating moving stories with memorable characters. Jane Oppenheimer is one of the foremost audiobook narrators working today\, with as many as 140 books to her credit. (She is the voice of Sybil in Virginia Evans’s beloved The Correspondent!) \nThis conversation will focus on Marybeth Whalen’s new novel\, Handle with Care\, which Jane Oppenheimer narrates. Join us for a fascinating talk about stories\, audiobooks\, and the many ways we read. \nThe event will be at Walker’s Market\, 809 Wellman Avenue (across the street from The Snail). \nTwo ticket options are available: \n\nTicket that includes book: $25\nTicket only: $18\n\nNOTE: If you purchase the audiobook of Handle with Care on Libro.fm (with The Snail on the Wall as your selected store)\, we will refund $5 of your ticket price.  \nGet Tickets Here. \nAbout Handle With Care:\nOn a quiet afternoon\, a small-town post office becomes the site of a domestic dispute when a husband holds four women captive: his frightened wife\, a young woman searching for meaning\, a mother facing an empty nest\, and an elderly woman with a life-altering secret. Outside\, a negotiator works to maintain a fragile peace while confronting her own struggles. Each woman carries something that\, if mailed\, would change her life. As the day stretches on\, these strangers form unexpected bonds. Handle with Care reveals how connection can emerge even in the darkest moments. \nAbout Marybeth Whalen:\nMarybeth Mayhew Whalen is the author of Every Moment Since and nine previous novels. She earned a BA in English with a concentration in Writing and Editing from NC State University and is the co-founder of The Book Tide\, an online community of readers where “a rising tide raises all books.” A native of Charlotte\, she now lives in Sunset Beach\, North Carolina\, with her husband Curt and their six children\, who are in various stages of adulthood. \nAbout Jane Oppenheimer:\nFrom literary fiction to romance and biographies\, Jane Oppenheimer’s narration style and honest characterizations have earned her Earphone Awards and nominations from the Society of Voice Arts and Sciences. A graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University with a BFA in Theater\, she has performed in theater\, television\, and film across New York\, Chicago\, and Los Angeles\, and her voice can be heard in museum installations\, commercials\, corporate videos\, and theme park rides. She is  the voice of Sybil in The Correspondent by Virginia Evans. When she’s not in the booth\, she works in real estate. For more\, visit www.janeoppenheimervoice.com.

SUMMARY:Book Launch: Maggie Rapier\, Wolftamer
DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Snail to celebrate Maggie Rapier’s new novel\, Wolftamer\, the aching and lush conclusion to the Magpie and the Wolf duology. \nTwo ticket options are available: \n\nTicket with Wolftamer: $20\nTicket with Soulgazer: $20\nTicket with Both Books: $30\n\nGet Tickets Here \nAbout Wolftamer:\nLegends don’t die. Saoirse and Faolan’s quest for freedom becomes a battle for the fate of their world in this aching and lush conclusion to the Magpie and the Wolf duology. Faolan has escaped death. Twice. Stranded on the Isle of Lost Souls and bound by an oath he did not choose\, he is haunted by dreams of drowning and a past he swore to leave behind. With no ship and no way to free his wife\, Saoirse\, Faolan is trapped. And everyone knows who tamed the Wolf. When King Maccus unveils an ancient godly relic with the power to unbalance their world\, Faolan must hunt it down before it’s too late—even if it means leaving Saoirse behind. \nAbout Maggie Rapier:\nBorn in the South with a healthy streak of wanderlust\, Maggie Rapier is an incurable romantic who loves nothing more than wordplay and witchcraft—except\, perhaps\, her sourdough starter. When she’s not marketing French antiques or writing about moody girls and sexy pirates\, you can find her wandering in the woods with a basket in hand.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a spellbinding evening with author Madeline Martin as we celebrate the release of her new novel\, A Time of Witches. If you like history with a touch of magic\, come hear about this story of sisterhood across centuries. \n(Note: This is the October selection for Snail Book Club!) \nTickets are $19.99 and include a paperback copy of A Time of Witches. Her search for answers leads her from Savannah to England\, to Brackenmere Manor\, where the past blurs with the present and a dangerous legacy emerges. In 1645 Suffolk\, Sybil Brantham stands accused as a witch. An educated widow\, she is branded a threat and must protect her sister as suspicion closes in. Across centuries\, Lilith and Sybil are bound by blood and danger. To survive\, they must confront the silence that has stolen women’s power for generations. \nAbout Madeline Martin:\nMadeline Martin is the bestselling author of historical fiction and historical romance\, with books translated into more than 25 languages. She lives in Florida with her husband (known as Mr. Awesome)\, their two daughters\, and two very spoiled cats.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Peabo Bryson
DESCRIPTION:The Rising South season will culminate in a benefit concert and fundraiser headlined by two-time Grammy Award winner Peabo Bryson\, whose legendary voice and artistry have inspired audiences for decades.\n\nMr. Bryson—recipient of Grammy Awards for “A Whole New World (Aladdin’s Theme)” and “Beauty and the Beast”—will perform a full concert in support of Rising South’s mission. \nPrior to Mr. Bryson’s performance\, local artists and student performers will take the stage\, including a signature musical presentation titled “From Hidden to Crowned\,” which depicts the journey from pain to purpose and triumph over violence. \nThrough this project\, Rising South Literacy School invites the entire community—students\, educators\, artists\, and families—to take part in building a culture of peace\, literacy\, and collective pride. \nABOUT RISING SOUTH LITERARY SCHOOL \nAlthough Rising South officially became a 501(c)(3) organization in late 2022\, and then paused after the loss of its founder\, our commitment to community service extends back more than two decades. Long before obtaining nonprofit status\, we operated as a grassroots volunteer collective\, organizing literacy drives\, mentoring youth\, hosting free arts workshops\, and leading community dialogues on gun violence\, domestic abuse\, and neighborhood revitalization.  \nIn February 2023\, we experienced the profound loss of one of our founding organizers\, Phillip Muhammad\, a retired police officer and passionate advocate for violence prevention who worked closely with residents most vulnerable to adverse outcomes.  \nHis dedication continues to inspire our mission\, and today Rising South carries forward his legacy by advancing initiatives that promote community safety\, education\, and healing. \nLEARN MORE\n\n\n  \nTickets: https://theorionhuntsville.com/events/?&currentpage=1&listview=0.
