Through the sharing of stories\, songs\, and art\, each playful exploration engages both adults and children as we make new discoveries about the plants and animals in this beautiful forest habitat. Because we believe that we protect the places that we love\, we hope to inspire young children to feel a friendly\, respectful connection to nature – forming a foundation for curiosity and enjoyment to last a lifetime. Families are welcome to stay after the event to enjoy a picnic from home. \nLittle Forest Friends is designed with activities for young toddlers (18 months to 3 years) to enjoy\, but older siblings are welcome to join! \n\nCost: FREE but membership to support our mission is very much appreciated.\nReservations: Reservations are required. Space is limited. Please register using parent/guardian’s information and reserve one spot per family (not per child). There are no waitlists for these events. DESCRIPTION:Hump Day Hike at Blevins Gap North (June 17 3:00-5:30pm)\n(Moderate/ 2 hours/ 3-3.5 miles) Join us for a midweek hike at the Blevins Gap Nature Preserve located in South Huntsville. This hike will start at the Fanning trailhead with a climb up the Fanning Trail to the Stevenson Trail. We will rejoin the Fanning Trail and continue to climb until we hit the Walsingham Trail. We will follow the Walsingham Trail to the downhill Baily Cove Trail and then follow the Jones Valley Loop Trail along the stream back to the trailhead. \nLocation: Blevins Gap Nature Preserve (Fanning Trailhead) – 2275 Cecil Ashburn Dr SE\, Huntsville\, AL 35802 \nThis trailhead is located behind Southeast Church of the Nazarene on Cecil Ashburn Drive. The trail leads you up and down the mountain through the forest\, and finishes up further down the greenway. This trail is listed as moderate difficulty due to elevation change and rocky terrain. \nThis hike is for teens\, ages 12–17. A parent or guardian must accompany each teen to the preserve\, and we ask that younger siblings not attend. Parents and guardians don’t have to hike. Be sure to wear hiking shoes\, bring layers and a snack and water. We will stop along the trail for nature journaling and taking photos\, so bring your favorite art supplies. DESCRIPTION:Families with young children (ages 18 months to 3 years) are invited to attend these nature discovery events designed to inspire a sense of wonder about the natural world. Through the sharing of stories\, songs\, and art\, each playful exploration engages both adults and children as we make new discoveries about the plants and animals in this beautiful forest habitat. Because we believe that we protect the places that we love\, we hope to inspire young children to feel a friendly\, respectful connection to nature – forming a foundation for curiosity and enjoyment to last a lifetime. Families are welcome to stay after the event to enjoy a picnic from home. \nLittle Forest Friends is designed with activities for young toddlers (18 months to 3 years) to enjoy\, but older siblings are welcome to join! \n\nCost: FREE but membership to support our mission is very much appreciated.\nReservations: Reservations are required. Complete a separate registration for each individual participating (each person must sign a waiver). Guardians may sign up on behalf of minors. Volunteers may hike up to 3 miles with more than 250 feet of elevation change. \nNo experience required. Please wear sturdy\, closed-toe shoes. Bug spray\, sunscreen\, work gloves\, eye protection\, and water recommended. Complete a separate registration for each individual participating (each person must sign a waiver).
