SUMMARY:Hike at Bethel Spring Nature Preserve
DESCRIPTION:(Moderately difficult / 2 hours/ 2 miles) Bethel Spring Nature Preserve has one of the most beautiful waterfalls on any of the Land Trust preserves and one of the largest in Madison County. This hike will start with an easy walk on the Bethel Creek Loop Trail. Things get a bit more challenging though as the route follows the Carpenter and Falling Sink Trails up to the waterfall. This trail is moderately difficult because of the 400 feet of elevation gain needed to get to the waterfall. SUMMARY:Weekday Hike at Blevins Gap North
DESCRIPTION:(Moderate / about 1.5 – 2 hours / just under 2 miles) \nJoin us for a beautiful walk along some of the northernmost trails on the Land Trust of North Alabama’s Blevins Gap Nature Preserve.  This hike will take us through a hardwood forest in the fall – be ready to crunch some leaves! \nDuring this hike\, we’ll be hosting hikers from Huntsville’s Sandra Moon Community Complex who might be joining us for the first time — welcome to them!  Thank you\, SMCC\, for the opportunity to partner with you for this event and those in the future. \nWe’ll start at the Fanning Trailhead and walk the Jones Valley Loop Trail.  We’ll then take a loop on the Fanning and Stevenson Trails\, then return to the trailhead and parking lot.  Because of the route for the hike\, participants will be able to skip the Fanning and Stevenson sections if they desire.  We’ll climb some hills during this outing\, but the pace will be slow and we’ll rest often! \nParticipants should dress for the weather and wear shoes suitable for walking on uneven terrain.  Bring a water bottle (and snack if you think you’ll want one). \nMeeting Location: The Fanning Trailhead\, located behind the Southeast Church of the Nazarene at 2275 Cecil Ashburn Dr SE\, Huntsville\, AL 35802 \nRegistration with the Land Trust is required. Hands-on investigations\, interactive group creation projects\, and nature journaling are part of the program. The experience culminates in a quiet\, reflective\, and immersive walk through the woods. \nLeader: Rosemary Puckett is a neuroscientist by training and a naturalist at heart. DESCRIPTION:The Rising South season will culminate in a benefit concert and fundraiser headlined by two-time Grammy Award winner Peabo Bryson\, whose legendary voice and artistry have inspired audiences for decades.\n\nMr. Bryson—recipient of Grammy Awards for “A Whole New World (Aladdin’s Theme)” and “Beauty and the Beast”—will perform a full concert in support of Rising South’s mission. \nPrior to Mr. Bryson’s performance\, local artists and student performers will take the stage\, including a signature musical presentation titled “From Hidden to Crowned\,” which depicts the journey from pain to purpose and triumph over violence. \nThrough this project\, Rising South Literacy School invites the entire community—students\, educators\, artists\, and families—to take part in building a culture of peace\, literacy\, and collective pride. \nABOUT RISING SOUTH LITERARY SCHOOL \nAlthough Rising South officially became a 501(c)(3) organization in late 2022\, and then paused after the loss of its founder\, our commitment to community service extends back more than two decades. These gatherings are an opportunity to connect with nature and one another without the pressure of keeping up with a group hike or reaching a destination.  Some participants enjoy taking a leisurely stroll\, while others prefer birdwatching\, fishing\, reading\, journaling\, photography\, or simply sitting and enjoying the scenery. Senior Saunter is about spending time outdoors\, making new friends\, and experiencing our preserves in a relaxed and welcoming environment. \nFirst-time guests are welcome to join us. We invite returning participants to become Land Trust members and support the conservation of North Alabama’s special places. Please come prepared for the weather and nature’s little distractions. Water\, sunscreen\, insect repellent\, and comfortable shoes are always recommended.
