SUMMARY:***CANCELED*** Hike at Harvest Square Nature Preserve
DESCRIPTION:***CANCELED*** \n(Easy / Around 1 hour / 1.75 miles) Harvest Square Nature Preserve has a lot of things about it that appeal to the casual hiker: Its trails are relatively easy to walk on\, there’s not a lot of mileage\, and – best of all – there are no hills! Mapping this hike shows it to have a whopping 20 feet of elevation gain over nearly two miles. While the exact route of the hike will be determined by the leader\, participants will see nearly the entire preserve with the exception of part of Senators Trail. Much of this walk is along crushed limestone paths and recently-installed boardwalks. \nIn the event this hike has to be canceled due to weather or trail conditions\, we will send a notification to the email address you use to register. \nLocation: Harvest Square Nature Preserve\, 111 Allyson Sadie Blvd\, Harvest\, AL 35749 \nSign up

SUMMARY:Senior Saunter at Bethel Spring Nature Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Bethel Springs Nature Preserve     9:00 AM – 11:00 AM \nFrom the Saunter leader\, Lynne Weninegar:   \n\nSenior Saunter is designed for Land Trust members aged 60 and older (or anyone who feels young at heart and enjoys a slower pace). These gatherings are an opportunity to connect with nature and one another without the pressure of keeping up with a group hike or reaching a destination.  Some participants enjoy taking a leisurely stroll\, while others prefer birdwatching\, fishing\, reading\, journaling\, photography\, or simply sitting and enjoying the scenery. Senior Saunter is about spending time outdoors\, making new friends\, and experiencing our preserves in a relaxed and welcoming environment. \nFirst-time guests are welcome to join us. We invite returning participants to become Land Trust members and support the conservation of North Alabama’s special places. Please come prepared for the weather and nature’s little distractions. Water\, sunscreen\, insect repellent\, and comfortable shoes are always recommended. We look forward to spending time with you on the preserves! \n\nBethel Spring Nature Preserve is on Keel Mountain with 200 acres open for outdoor recreation. You can saunter on a little under two miles of free trails while exploring upland forest\, working farmland\, historic sites\, an environmentally-significant spring and creek\, as well as one of Madison County’s tallest waterfalls. The Bethel Creek Loop Trail is accessible to all “saunterers”\, including those with mobility devices. Come meet Lynne and enjoy a treasure of the Land Trust of North Alabama. Bring a camera\, your birding binoculars\, and a walking stick! \nLocation: Bethel Spring Nature Preserve – 2641 Cherry Tree Road\, Gurley\, AL 35748 \nSign Up  \nIn the event this hike has to be canceled due to weather or trail conditions\, we will send a notification to the email address you use to register. \n \n

SUMMARY:An Evening with Peabo Bryson
DESCRIPTION:The Rising South season will culminate in a benefit concert and fundraiser headlined by two-time Grammy Award winner Peabo Bryson\, whose legendary voice and artistry have inspired audiences for decades.\n\nMr. Bryson—recipient of Grammy Awards for “A Whole New World (Aladdin’s Theme)” and “Beauty and the Beast”—will perform a full concert in support of Rising South’s mission. \nPrior to Mr. Bryson’s performance\, local artists and student performers will take the stage\, including a signature musical presentation titled “From Hidden to Crowned\,” which depicts the journey from pain to purpose and triumph over violence. \nThrough this project\, Rising South Literacy School invites the entire community—students\, educators\, artists\, and families—to take part in building a culture of peace\, literacy\, and collective pride. \nABOUT RISING SOUTH LITERARY SCHOOL \nAlthough Rising South officially became a 501(c)(3) organization in late 2022\, and then paused after the loss of its founder\, our commitment to community service extends back more than two decades. Long before obtaining nonprofit status\, we operated as a grassroots volunteer collective\, organizing literacy drives\, mentoring youth\, hosting free arts workshops\, and leading community dialogues on gun violence\, domestic abuse\, and neighborhood revitalization.  \nIn February 2023\, we experienced the profound loss of one of our founding organizers\, Phillip Muhammad\, a retired police officer and passionate advocate for violence prevention who worked closely with residents most vulnerable to adverse outcomes.  \nHis dedication continues to inspire our mission\, and today Rising South carries forward his legacy by advancing initiatives that promote community safety\, education\, and healing. \nLEARN MORE\n\n\n  \nTickets: https://theorionhuntsville.com/events/?&currentpage=1&listview=0.
