SUMMARY:Hike at Harvest Square
DESCRIPTION:(Easy / Around 1 hour / 1.75 miles) Harvest Square Nature Preserve has a lot of things about it that appeal to the casual hiker: Its trails are relatively easy to walk on\, there’s not a lot of mileage\, and – best of all – there are no hills! Mapping this hike shows it to have a whopping 20 feet of elevation gain over nearly two miles. While the exact route of the hike will be determined by the leader\, participants will see nearly the entire preserve with the exception of part of Senators Trail. Much of this walk is along crushed limestone paths and recently-installed boardwalks. \nIn the event this hike has to be canceled due to weather or trail conditions\, we will send a notification to the email address you use to register. \nLocation: Harvest Square Nature Preserve\, 111 Allyson Sadie Blvd\, Harvest\, AL 35749 \nSign up \n

SUMMARY:Spring Macrophotography Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Land Trust invites you to a two-part workshop on Macro Photography led by two local photographers and Land Trust volunteers\, Jim Kendall and Kyle Zeringue. This workshop is for people already familiar with manual photography who want to improve their skills at macro photography using a DSLR\, SLR\, or Mirrorless camera (no cell phone photography). In the indoor practice session you will learn about macrophotography and practice taking photos of flowers and small objects at the Land Trust office. In the field session you will apply this knowledge to photograph wildflowers\, fungi\, and whatever else inspires you at the Nature Preserve. \nHere are the session details: \nTuesday\, March 31\, 5:00-7:30  –  Indoor session for instruction and practice \nLocation: Land Trust of North Alabama office\,\n2707 Artie St SW Ste 6\,  Huntsville\, Alabama 35805 \nSaturday\, April 4\, 9:00-2:00   –  Field session\, Matthews Nature Preserve\n(The address and access information will be provided in a follow-up email) \nYou will receive further information such as supplies\, locations and a handout a few days after you sign up. There is a $20 fee to cover workshop supplies. \nThe link to sign up is here \nAbout the Instructors: \nJim Kendall:  Jim is an electrical engineer who began his photography journey in the water while SCUBA diving\, learning photography the hard way with underwater film\, and later transitioning to digital photography. In the move from Florida to Alabama\, he found himself diving less and becoming interested in photography on land. He likes traveling for photography workshops and to photograph specific subjects like bears in the Smoky Mountains. He was the photographer for the Huntsville Ballet for 10 years\, shoots for the Army part-time\, and is currently documenting Land Trust properties with a drone. \nYou can see his work at: https://www.jimkendallphotography.com/ \n  \nKyle Zeringue: Kyle has a Ph.D. in physical chemistry and began photography when in grad school as an escape from lab research work. He ran the office for PRA in Huntsville for 21 years and is familiar with photographing the local landscape\, flora and fauna. He is mostly retired and spends time on creative pursuits such as photography and ceramics\, which he took up two years ago at Sullivan Pottery. He had a studio at Lowe Mill for eight years and finds inspiration in John Shaw’s book on close up photography and photo workshops\, mostly at National Parks\, on topics like flower portraits\, frozen flowers and milky way photography.
