DESCRIPTION:Danny Davis and Tangled String Studios in historic Lowe Mill A&E welcomes Jim White to the spectacular listening room of Studio RR7! \nJim White’s a restless soul operating in a variety of artistic mediums. First discovered by David Byrne\, White’s quirky musical output spans a 30 year stretch\, garnering him critical darling status along the way. \nHis iconic duet with Aimee Mann on the song Static on the Radio appeared in the closing credits of the film El Camino\, while his Primus-esque romp Wordmule was featured in the pivotal Heisenger Episode of the  Breaking Bad TV series. \nWhite’s a published author as well. His debut novel\, Incidental Contact was described by Mojo Magazine as “unputdownable”. Skirmishes With the Lord\, his follow up publication\, is a collection of humorous essays detailing the making of the award winning BBC 4 documentary Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus\, which White starred in. \nHis visual art has been displayed both nationally and internationally\, including shows at The Douglas Hyde Gallery in Dublin Ireland\, Aarhus Festuge in Aarhus Denmark\, the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art\, in Winston-Salem and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans.  You can see his latest exhibit “Anything Can Be Redeemed” in the North Floor Gallery of Lowe Mill A&E. \nHis visual art output primarily centers around found object three dimensional assemblage constructions\, constituent parts culled from dumpsters\, flea markets and thrift stores around the US South. \nWhite’s themes\, be they in song\, written form or visual art\, primarily focus on the contradictions presented by life in the US South\, focusing in particular on southern religion and cultural institutions. \nWhite is the father of two grown daughters\, the eldest being rising country music star Willow Avalon.

This is our building-wide arts extravaganza when all 150+ studio doors are open to the public with wonderful artworks waiting to be discovered everywhere! Our 200+ artists and makers have 24/7 access to their studios at the Mill so they are here working at many different times and days throughout the week. This event is the public’s opportunity to come see all of them in their studios and visit them in their work environment to discuss their spectacular creations. For this festive event we have music and refreshments throughout the building as folks wander all three floors of our historic factory discovering new artists and artworks. If that isn’t enough\, it is also the final night of our exhibits currently on view in our 8 gallery spaces. The visiting artists are in attendance and available to interact with the public and discuss their artwork while it is on display in the gallery spaces. On such a special night\, we encourage everyone to roam the open building and discover the special artworks that speak to them!
