SUMMARY:Senior Saunter at Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve
DESCRIPTION:From the Saunter leader\, Lynne Weninegar:   \n\nThese walks are planned especially for those Land Trust Members who are nature lovers and at least 60 years old (or feel our age) who just want to relax and enjoy a slow pace while experiencing nature at its best.  Please come prepared for nature’s little “distractions – ants\, ticks\, other “bugs”\, and the heat”. You will need insect repellent\, snacks\, closed-toed shoes (preferably hiking boots)\, water\, sunscreen and maybe a walking stick if you need extra confidence! Non-members are welcome for their first hike with us\, but are asked to become members of the Land Trust of North Alabama prior to attending a second hike. We love providing fun for everyone on our Preserves. A membership offers you many other opportunities\, as well as provides the Land Trust the ability to continue preserving land in North Alabama! We look forward to seeing you for this year’s Senior Saunters! \n\nJoin us for a Bioblitz at Chapman Mt. and spend some time at the Bird Blind Feature and the newest birding feature just recently installed at the Preserve. If you have never participated in a Bioblitz\, this is an opportunity to “get your feet wet” and let’s see how many species of “all things living at Chapman” we can locate and document. Be sure your iNaturalist app is installed prior to coming to the event. You will enjoy using iNaturalist! Lynne will assist you if you need help! Lots of birds\, butterflies\, moths\, mammals\, lizards\, frogs\, and yes\, maybe even a snake or two to see at this event! This app is one you will be sure to use when you get back home! If you do not want to Bioblitz\, just enjoy the property! \nSign up \nIn the event this hike has to be canceled due to weather or trail conditions\, we will send a notification to the email address you use to register. \nLocation: The Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve\, 1263 U.S Hwy 72 East\, Huntsville\, AL 35811 (Directions: Coming from Huntsville\, cross Chapman Mountain on Hwy 72 and U-turn at Moores Mill Road. When safe\, get into the merge lane on the right (plenty of time). When the silver guard rail ends\, be ready to turn right onto the paved entrance. Drive through the gate and down the gravel road to the parking area at the bottom of the hill.)

SUMMARY:Hike at Harvest Square
DESCRIPTION:(Easy / Around 1 hour / 1.75 miles) Harvest Square Nature Preserve has a lot of things about it that appeal to the casual hiker: Its trails are relatively easy to walk on\, there’s not a lot of mileage\, and – best of all – there are no hills! Mapping this hike shows it to have a whopping 20 feet of elevation gain over nearly two miles. While the exact route of the hike will be determined by the leader\, participants will see nearly the entire preserve with the exception of part of Senators Trail. Much of this walk is along crushed limestone paths and recently-installed boardwalks. \nIn the event this hike has to be canceled due to weather or trail conditions\, we will send a notification to the email address you use to register. \nLocation: Harvest Square Nature Preserve\, 111 Allyson Sadie Blvd\, Harvest\, AL 35749 \nSign up

SUMMARY:Senior Saunter at Wade Mountain Nature Preserve
DESCRIPTION:(Moderate / 4 hours / Around 3 miles) \nFrom the Saunter leader\, Lynne Weninegar: \n\nThese walks are planned especially for those Land Trust Members who are nature lovers and at least 60 years old (or feel our age) who just want to relax and enjoy a slow pace while experiencing nature at its best. \n\nLoad the iNaturalist app onto your phone and join Lynne Weninegar for a slow walk up to Devil’s Racetrack to see the Tennessee Valley and some very unique and interesting plants along the way! We will have lunch at the top of Wade Mountain\,  so pack a lunch\, plenty of water\, and snacks! If you have never been to the “Devil’s Racetrack\,” now is your chance to do the saunter\, take awesome photos\, and enjoy a view like no other on our Land Trust Preserves. Meet in the Spraggins Hollow parking lot at 9:00 AM. Though this is a long day…it will be paced for enjoyment\, not a marathon! \nNote: This preserve has multiple trailheads – be sure to go to the right one! \nLocation: Wade Mountain Nature Preserve (Spragins Hollow Trailhead) – 10130 Spragins Hollow Road NW\, Huntsville\, AL 35810 (off of Winchester Road) \nSign up \nIn the event this hike has to be canceled due to weather or trail conditions\, we will send a notification to the email address you use to register.

SUMMARY:Hike at Bethel Spring Nature Preserve
DESCRIPTION:(Moderately difficult / 3 hours/ 3 miles) Bethel Spring Nature Preserve has one of the most beautiful waterfalls on any of the Land Trust preserves and one of the largest in Madison County. This hike will start with an easy walk on the Bethel Creek Loop Trail. Things get a bit more challenging though as the route follows the Carpenter and Falling Sink Trails up to the waterfall. This trail is moderately difficult because of the 400 feet of elevation gain needed to get to the waterfall. After spending time at the waterfall\, the group will head back down the Mill Trail and back to the trailhead. \nLocation: Bethel Spring Nature Preserve – 2641 Cherry Tree Road\, Gurley\, AL 35748 \nSign Up \nIn the event this hike has to be canceled due to weather or trail conditions\, we will send a notification to the email address you use to register. \n \n

\nLocation: Harvest Square Nature Preserve\, 111 Allyson Sadie Blvd\, Harvest\, AL 35749 \nSign up \n

SUMMARY:Cane Creek Nature Preserve Hike
DESCRIPTION:(Moderate / about 4 hours / 5 miles) \nHooper Falls is 2.5 miles out for a one-way\, 5 miles round trip. We will be taking it easy on the hike and moving at a leisurely pace. The hike is of moderate difficulty with some rolling hill climbs coming mostly at the end of the hike as we climb back out of the preserve towards the parking area. Hikers are encouraged to pack some snacks or a sack lunch and bring a full water bottle. We will be passing water stations along the way to refill water bottles\, so there are no worries there.  Hooper Falls is a less frequented site on the preserve but a great one to visit\, especially after a good hard rainfall. Wildlife and wildflowers abound in this part of the preserve so be sure to bring your camera or cell phone! \nLocation: Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve – 251 Loop Rd\, Tuscumbia\, AL 35674 \nIn the event this hike has to be canceled due to weather or trail conditions\, we will send a notification to the email address you use to register. \nSign Up
