SUMMARY:Hike at Bethel Spring Nature Preserve
DESCRIPTION:(Moderately difficult / 3 hours/ 3 miles) Bethel Spring Nature Preserve has one of the most beautiful waterfalls on any of the Land Trust preserves and one of the largest in Madison County. This hike will start with an easy walk on the Bethel Creek Loop Trail. Things get a bit more challenging though as the route follows the Carpenter and Falling Sink Trails up to the waterfall. This trail is moderately difficult because of the 400 feet of elevation gain needed to get to the waterfall. After spending time at the waterfall\, the group will head back down the Mill Trail and back to the trailhead. \nLocation: Bethel Spring Nature Preserve – 2641 Cherry Tree Road\, Gurley\, AL 35748 \nSign up \nIn the event this hike has to be canceled due to weather or trail conditions\, we will send a notification to the email address you use to register. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Hike at Harvest Square
DESCRIPTION:(Easy / Around 1 hour / 1.75 miles) Harvest Square Nature Preserve has a lot of things about it that appeal to the casual hiker: Its trails are relatively easy to walk on\, there’s not a lot of mileage\, and – best of all – there are no hills! Mapping this hike shows it to have a whopping 20 feet of elevation gain over nearly two miles. While the exact route of the hike will be determined by the leader\, participants will see nearly the entire preserve with the exception of part of Senators Trail. Much of this walk is along crushed limestone paths and recently-installed boardwalks. \nIn the event this hike has to be canceled due to weather or trail conditions\, we will send a notification to the email address you use to register. \nLocation: Harvest Square Nature Preserve\, 111 Allyson Sadie Blvd\, Harvest\, AL 35749 \nSign up \n

SUMMARY:Hike at Green Mountain South
DESCRIPTION:(Moderate / Around 2 hours / 2.1 miles) This hike\, along Green Mountain’s Alum Hollow Trail\, will take hikers to Alum Falls and the rock shelter nearby\, two scenic spots on the preserve. SUMMARY:30th Annual Thanksgiving Day Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Thanksgiving Day tradition! Get ready for your Thanksgiving feast by starting the morning off with a Monte Sano hike led by Land Trust volunteers and staff. \nThis year is a bit different because our hike starts at the Three Caves Trailhead due to the Bankhead Trailhead being closed for construction of the Tollgate Greenway.  We’re also giving hikers two choices: \nThe shorter option\, led by David Young\, starts at the Three Caves Trailhead and heads east on the Waterline Trail. When hikers get to the Young-Kennedy Trail\, they will head north on Young-Kennedy to the Wagon Trail.  Heading north on the Wagon Trail\, hikers will continue on to the Alms House Trail.  They will then take the Alms House Trail back to the trailhead. (2.05 miles / moderately difficult) \nThe longer option\, led by Bruce Martin\, starts at the Three Caves Trailhead and heads north on the Alms House Trail.  Once hikers reach the Sink Hole Trail\, they will take it north to meet the Wildflower Trail.  They will head east on the Wildflower Trail\, taking it to the Wagon Trail.  They will take Wagon Trail south to meet the Young-Kennedy Trail.  Taking the Young-Kennedy trail south\, hikers will continue to the Waterline Trail\, which they will take west\, using it to return to the trailhead.  (3.25 miles / moderately difficult with a climb) \nTrailhead: Monte Sano Nature Preserve (Three Caves Trailhead) – 901 Kennamer Dr SE\, Huntsville\, AL 35801 \nSign up for the shorter hike \nSign up for the longer hike \nIn the event this hike has to be canceled due to weather or trail conditions\, we will send a notification to the email address you use to register. \n

SUMMARY:Teen Homeschool Hike at Wade Mountain

A parent or guardian must accompany each teen to the preserve\, and we ask that younger siblings not attend. Parents and guardians don’t have to hike. Be sure to dress in layers for the weather\, wear hiking shoes\, and bring a snack and water. We will stop along the trail for nature journaling or taking photos\, so bring your favorite art supplies! \nHike Leaders: Bri and Adrienne Cobert \nLocation: Wade Mountain Nature Preserve (Spragins Hollow Trailhead) – 10130 Spragins Hollow Road NW\, Huntsville\, AL 35810 (off of Winchester Road) \nPlease note\, this preserve has multiple trailheads – be sure to go to the right one! \nSign up \nIn the event this hike has to be canceled due to weather or trail conditions\, we will send a notification to the email address you use to register.
