SUMMARY:Senior Saunter at Harvest Square Nature Preserve
DESCRIPTION:From the Saunter leader\, Lynne Weninegar:   \n\nSenior Saunter is designed for Land Trust members aged 60 and older (or anyone who feels young at heart and enjoys a slower pace). These gatherings are an opportunity to connect with nature and one another without the pressure of keeping up with a group hike or reaching a destination.  Some participants enjoy taking a leisurely stroll\, while others prefer birdwatching\, fishing\, reading\, journaling\, photography\, or simply sitting and enjoying the scenery. Senior Saunter is about spending time outdoors\, making new friends\, and experiencing our preserves in a relaxed and welcoming environment. \nFirst-time guests are welcome to join us. We invite returning participants to become Land Trust members and support the conservation of North Alabama’s special places. Please come prepared for the weather and nature’s little distractions. Water\, sunscreen\, insect repellent\, and comfortable shoes are always recommended. We look forward to spending time with you on the preserves! \n\nJoin Lynne Weninegar for an early morning saunter along the boardwalks at Harvest Square Nature Preserve. View two naturally stocked man-made ponds\, bring a fishing pole (if you have your fishing license) for a little “catch and release” time\, or just hang out around the pavilion and watch birds and butterflies! Stroll the boardwalks\, watch birds and butterflies\, spend time by the ponds\, try a little catch-and-release fishing (with a valid fishing license)\, or simply relax with a book or journal beneath the pavilion. DESCRIPTION:We’re starting off our summer Tuesdays on the Trail series with a night hike at Harvest Square! We’ll gather at dusk and hike in the preserve as night falls to discover what creatures we see or hear in the darkness. We’ll use UV lights and learn some techniques scientists use in the dark. Do certain plants or creatures “glow” in the dark? Can you hear our resident beaver slap its tail? While the exact route of the hike will be determined by the leader\, participants will see nearly the entire preserve with the exception of part of Senators Trail.
