SUMMARY:Foraging Hike at Harvest Square
DESCRIPTION:(Easy/ 2 hours) What can we find to forage in the hot weather of August? (Persimmons\, wild grapes\, maypop\, and more!) Join forager Casey Lanier at Harvest Square Nature Preserve to search out plants and fungi that can be harvested and prepared at home. The route for this hike will be determined by Casey. \nA FEW NOTES: This hike is educational\, so if you’re looking for a walk with no long stops to talk\, it’s probably not what you’re looking for. The hike is scheduled to last 2 hours\, but it may run long. This hike around the preserve is not intended for collection or consumption of species\, but more for identification and educational knowledge. \nLocation: Harvest Square Nature Preserve\, 111 Allyson Sadie Blvd\, Harvest\, AL 35749 \nSign up \nIn the event this hike has to be canceled due to weather or trail conditions\, we will send a notification to the email address you use to register.

SUMMARY:Senior Saunter at Harvest Square Nature Preserve
DESCRIPTION:From the Saunter leader\, Lynne Weninegar:   \n\nSenior Saunter is designed for Land Trust members aged 60 and older (or anyone who feels young at heart and enjoys a slower pace). These gatherings are an opportunity to connect with nature and one another without the pressure of keeping up with a group hike or reaching a destination.  Some participants enjoy taking a leisurely stroll\, while others prefer birdwatching\, fishing\, reading\, journaling\, photography\, or simply sitting and enjoying the scenery. Senior Saunter is about spending time outdoors\, making new friends\, and experiencing our preserves in a relaxed and welcoming environment. \nFirst-time guests are welcome to join us. We invite returning participants to become Land Trust members and support the conservation of North Alabama’s special places. Please come prepared for the weather and nature’s little distractions. Water\, sunscreen\, insect repellent\, and comfortable shoes are always recommended. We look forward to spending time with you on the preserves! \n\nJoin Lynne Weninegar for an early morning saunter along the boardwalks at Harvest Square Nature Preserve. View two naturally stocked man-made ponds\, bring a fishing pole (if you have your fishing license) for a little “catch and release” time\, or just hang out around the pavilion and watch birds and butterflies! Stroll the boardwalks\, watch birds and butterflies\, spend time by the ponds\, try a little catch-and-release fishing (with a valid fishing license)\, or simply relax with a book or journal beneath the pavilion. Participants are welcome to explore at their own pace and choose the activities that interest them most.  Though located in a busy area\, Harvest Square offers a peaceful escape and a chance to slow down\, connect with nature\, and enjoy good company. \nSign up \nIn the event this hike has to be canceled due to weather or trail conditions\, we will send a notification to the email address you use to register. \nLocation: Harvest Square Nature Preserve\, 111 Allyson Sadie Blvd\, Harvest\, AL 35749

Join us on this special nocturnal hike led by naturalist and children’s book author\, Heather Montgomery to answer these questions. \nCost: FREE but only available for Land Trust members at the Trailblazer (Family) level or above. \nReservations: Land Trust members at the Trailblazer (Family) level or above only. SUMMARY:Hike at Harvest Square
DESCRIPTION:(Easy / Around 1 hour / 1.75 miles) Harvest Square Nature Preserve has a lot of things about it that appeal to the casual hiker: Its trails are relatively easy to walk on\, there’s not a lot of mileage\, and – best of all – there are no hills! Mapping this hike shows it to have a whopping 20 feet of elevation gain over nearly two miles. While the exact route of the hike will be determined by the leader\, participants will see nearly the entire preserve with the exception of part of Senators Trail. Much of this walk is along crushed limestone paths and recently-installed boardwalks. \nIn the event this hike has to be canceled due to weather or trail conditions\, we will send a notification to the email address you use to register. \nLocation: Harvest Square Nature Preserve\, 111 Allyson Sadie Blvd\, Harvest\, AL 35749 \nSign up \n
