SUMMARY:Neuroscience of Nature at Harvest Square
DESCRIPTION:Come explore the Neuroscience of Nature and discover tools and techniques in the natural world that can better our lives and improve wellness and mental health. In this program\, students gain a deeper understanding of brain function and sensory systems that is grounded in nature. Participants will learn how neurons in the brain change with experience to create memory and influence mood\, then test these concepts in a natural setting through activities designed for them to engage their senses\, practice mindfulness and focused attention\, and reflect on the new ideas and questions brought about by these experiences. Hands-on investigations\, interactive group creation projects\, and nature journaling are part of the program. The experience culminates in a quiet\, reflective\, and immersive walk through the woods. \nLeader: Rosemary Puckett is a neuroscientist by training and a naturalist at heart. She is a researcher and educator who studies how experience changes the brain during learning and memory formation. \nWhat to Bring: Closed toed shoes are required.  We also recommend long pants\, bug spray\, sunscreen\, and water. \nLocation: Harvest Square Nature Preserve\, 111 Allyson Sadie Blvd\, Harvest\, AL 35749 \nDirections: Coming from Huntsville on Jordan Lane\, turn right at the light onto Jeff Rd. Turn right onto Alyson Sadie Blvd where you see the Publix sign.  Follow this road to our gravel parking lot and trailhead. \nRegistration is required. \nSignUp  \nIn the event this hike has to be canceled due to weather or trail conditions\, we will send a notification to the email address you use to register.
