DESCRIPTION:The Rising South season will culminate in a benefit concert and fundraiser headlined by two-time Grammy Award winner Peabo Bryson\, whose legendary voice and artistry have inspired audiences for decades.\n\nMr. Bryson—recipient of Grammy Awards for “A Whole New World (Aladdin’s Theme)” and “Beauty and the Beast”—will perform a full concert in support of Rising South’s mission. \nPrior to Mr. Bryson’s performance\, local artists and student performers will take the stage\, including a signature musical presentation titled “From Hidden to Crowned\,” which depicts the journey from pain to purpose and triumph over violence. \nThrough this project\, Rising South Literacy School invites the entire community—students\, educators\, artists\, and families—to take part in building a culture of peace\, literacy\, and collective pride. \nABOUT RISING SOUTH LITERARY SCHOOL \nAlthough Rising South officially became a 501(c)(3) organization in late 2022\, and then paused after the loss of its founder\, our commitment to community service extends back more than two decades. The latter gained the group entry into the Vocal Group Hall Of Fame in 2004\, while the former has seen the band sell some 40 million albums over their five-plus decades in existence. In concert\, The Doobie Brothers thrill with their combination of electrifying guitar work\, tight group vocals\, and the occasional saxophone solo as well.  \nThe Doobie Brothers have won two Grammy Awards\, both in 1979\, for their songs “Minute By Minute” (Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals) and “What A Fool Believes” (Record of the Year). They were also nominated for Album Of The Year for Minute By Minute in 1979\, along with Best Pop Instrumental Performance for “South Bay Strut” in 1980.  \nThe core of what would become the Doobie Brothers came together around 1970\, when guitarist Patrick Simmons and bassist Dave Shogren joined forces with drummer John Hartman and guitarist/vocalist Tom Johnston. They toured the San Jose area\, morphing into the acclaimed rock act they are today.
