SUMMARY:Senior Saunter at Monte Sano: Bankhead Trailhead
DESCRIPTION:27 September 2026 Sunday \nMonte Sano Nature Preserve – Old RR Bed Trail     2:00 PM – 4:00 PM \nFrom the Saunter leader\, Lynne Weninegar:   \n\nSenior Saunter is designed for Land Trust members aged 60 and older (or anyone who feels young at heart and enjoys a slower pace). These gatherings are an opportunity to connect with nature and one another without the pressure of keeping up with a group hike or reaching a destination.  Some participants enjoy taking a leisurely stroll\, while others prefer birdwatching\, fishing\, reading\, journaling\, photography\, or simply sitting and enjoying the scenery. Senior Saunter is about spending time outdoors\, making new friends\, and experiencing our preserves in a relaxed and welcoming environment. \nFirst-time guests are welcome to join us. We invite returning participants to become Land Trust members and support the conservation of North Alabama’s special places. Please come prepared for the weather and nature’s little distractions. Water\, sunscreen\, insect repellent\, and comfortable shoes are always recommended. We look forward to spending time with you on the preserves! \n\nMeet at the parking lot off Toll Gate/Bankhead Pkwy. This walk will take us through a historic area of the Monte Sano Nature Preserve. We will follow the path of one of the country’s oldest and shortest-lived\, rail corridors—Monte Sano Railway. As you hike the narrow dirt and stone bed\, you will pass waterfalls and the original stone bridge supports. FREE Audio Trail Tour along Old Railroad Bed Trail available in the TravelStorys app. Birds will be out and about\, trees will be showing some Fall colors\, and the saunter is sure to be fun and memorable! \nSign Up \n
