DESCRIPTION:Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment welcomes everyone to come experience our Open Studio Night!  This is our building-wide arts extravaganza when all 150+ studio doors are open to the public with wonderful artworks waiting to be discovered everywhere!  Our 200+ artists and makers have 24/7 access to their studios at the Mill so they are here working at many different times and days throughout the week.  This event is the public’s opportunity to come see all of them in their studios and visit them in their work environment to discuss their spectacular creations.  For this festive event we have music and refreshments throughout the building as folks wander all three floors of our historic factory discovering new artists and artworks.  If that isn’t enough\, it is also the final night of our exhibits currently on view in our 8 gallery spaces.  The visiting artists are in attendance and available to interact with the public and discuss their artwork while it is on display in the gallery spaces.  On such a special night\, we encourage everyone to roam the open building and discover the special artworks that speak to them!

Joe is a self taught representational artist and painting instructor from Alabama’s Black Belt region. He is known for capturing the nostalgic beauty of rural landscapes and structures\, often incorporating themes of conservation\, heritage\, and history into his work. Timothy’s art typically features old barns\, weathered houses\, and forgotten structures that tell stories of the past\, as well as wildlife\, particularly birds. \nSome key aspects of Timothy’s artistic approach:. \n\nArtist Style: Loose impressionistic style with a focus on atmosphere\, texture\, and light play.\nInspiration: Rural landscapes\, family heritage\, and historical locations.\nMission: Preserve the disappearing rural landscape and promote environmental awareness through art.\nTeaching: Guiding students of all levels to explore their artistic voice and storytelling through art.\nExhibitions: His work has been exhibited throughout the Southeast and is held in private collections across the US\, Governor Ivey’s Mansion\, Europe\, and Singapore.\n\nTimothy has participated in various art events\, including plain air competitions and workshops\, and has been featured in publications like Plein Air Magazine. His artistic journey is driven by a passion for capturing hidden treasures and telling the stories of places and people that shapes his world. \n  \nArtist Statement:  \nMy favorite subjects are rural structures in landscapes and nature journaling. I love learning the history of my subject and gaining the appreciation that helps me create meaningful art. Creating a beautiful painting is nice\, but painting the same scene with an understanding of the history is what I am after. I believe the backstory of my subject is just as important as the color I choose to paint.   \nMy art style concentrates on the light effect on my subject matter and contrast between light and shadow.  \nPreserve Local History \nI love learning the history of my subject and gaining the appreciation that helps me create meaningful art. Creating a beautiful painting is nice\, but painting the same scene with an understanding of the history is what I am after. I believe the backstory of my subject is just as important as the color I choose to paint. If I don’t tell its story\, no one will. I can not describe the excitement when I learn the history of a place or building from the locals. That adds so many layers and sentimental value to my work.  \nNature Conservation  \nI am a third generation black Angus farmer\, birdwatcher\, and hiker so the love for the outdoors comes natural to me. There is so much beauty and craftsmanship in God’s creation that I can not help but to document on canvas\, panel or my art journal. I have an art journal solely dedicated to birds and nature with my observation notes. I never counted on my journal gaining the popularity that it did\, but that showed me how nature connects people. My art serves to educate the importance of nature conservation\, to be mindful of how we use natural resources and care for other living creatures we share this planet with. I may not be able to convince someone to read a book about preserving delicate habitats\, but I sure can paint them for many to see. This is how I open the door to talks that can lead to birding tours\, painting in state forest\, and wildlife refuges.

DESCRIPTION:Have you wanted to try printmaking but thought it was intimidating or taken an art class in high school where you carved a block and want to get back into it? Do you have absolutely no clue what block printing even is? Everyone is welcome! This (IN-PERSON) class is intended to be a very bare-bones\, basic intro to block printing with linoleum. The fee includes the paper\, ink\, and tools you will need to be able to create a 4×6” carving to print by hand on 5×7” assorted papers. This workshop covers what you need to learn to print at home with minimal tools in order to make basic printmaking accessible without the use of a printing press. We will cover tearing paper to size\, transferring your image to your block\, carving\, inking\, printing\, numbering prints\, and cleanup. Your carving tools and brayer are included in your fee\, and you will be able to take them home with you at the end of the workshop with information on where to get additional supplies and a zine covering the basics learned in the workshop as a reminder for those who choose to continue printing. This class forms the basis you will need if you would like to continue with more advanced future workshops that I will be planning. \nYou will receive an email beforehand with additional information leading up to the workshop date. Adults 18+ only for this one at this time. \nClass is Saturday May 16 \nRegistration for this class ends May 1
