DESCRIPTION:(Moderate/ 2.5 hours/ 3-3.5 miles) Join us for a midweek hike at the Wade Mountain Nature Preserve located in North Huntsville on Spragins Hollow Road. This hike will start at the Spragins Hollow trailhead with moderate climb up the Devils Racetrack Trail with a loop around the mountain top. SUMMARY:Senior Saunter at Wade Mountain Nature Preserve
DESCRIPTION:(Moderate / 4 hours / Around 3 miles) \nFrom the Saunter leader\, Lynne Weninegar:  \n\nThese walks are planned especially for those Land Trust Members who are nature lovers and at least 60 years old (or feel our age) who just want to relax and enjoy a slow pace while experiencing nature at its best.  Please come prepared for nature’s little “distractions – ants\, ticks\, other “bugs”\, and the heat”. You will need insect repellent\, snacks\, closed-toed shoes (preferably hiking boots)\, water\, sunscreen and maybe a walking stick if you need extra confidence! Non-members are welcome for their first hike with us\, but are asked to become members of the Land Trust of North Alabama prior to attending a second hike. We love providing fun for everyone on our Preserves. A membership offers you many other opportunities\, as well as provides the Land Trust the ability to continue preserving land in North Alabama! We look forward to seeing you for this year’s Senior Saunters! \n\nLoad the iNaturalist app onto your phone and join Lynne Weninegar for a slow walk up to Devil’s Racetrack to see the Tennessee Valley and some very unique and interesting plants along the way! We will have lunch at the top of Wade Mountain\,  so pack a lunch\, plenty of water\, and snacks! If you have never been to the “Devil’s Racetrack\,” now is your chance to do the saunter\, take awesome photos\, and enjoy a view like no other on our Land Trust Preserves. Meet in the Spraggins Hollow parking lot at 9:00 AM. SUMMARY:Teen Homeschool Hike at Wade Mountain
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the monthly Teen Homeschool Hike at Wade Mountain Nature Preserve. We will start at Spragins Hollow Trailhead\, passing through the woods and then going uphill to the top of the trail. Most of the elevation change is gradual\, but a couple of small areas are moderately challenging for some people. The loop at the top of the trail\, called the Devil’s Racetrack\, features interesting rock formations and at times\, beautiful wildflowers. Between the forested area and the more open area at the top of the trail\, you will see two very different landscapes. \nThis hike is for teens\, ages 12 – 17. A parent or guardian must accompany each teen to the preserve\, and we ask that younger siblings not attend. Parents and guardians don’t have to hike. Be sure to dress in layers for the weather\, wear hiking shoes\, and bring a snack and water.
