DESCRIPTION:REED TIMMERDOMINATE THE STORMVon Braun Center’sMars Music HallFriday\, September 26\, 2025 \n TICKETS AVAILABLE TODAY\, MAY 12\, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. \nHuntsville\, Alabama (May 12\, 2025) – The Von Braun Center (VBC) and Big Spring Entertainment are bringing meteorologist Reed Timmer of Discovery Channel’s Storm Chasers to the VBC Mars Music Hall on Friday\, September 26\, 2025. \nDr. Reed Timmer is an extreme meteorologist and storm chaser who specializes in intercepting the most powerful storms on the planet to collect valuable scientific data. Graduating with a PhD in meteorology from the University of Oklahoma\, Timmer is not only a hardcore storm chaser\, but also a scientist driven to unravel the mysteries behind these destructive storms and how they are changing over time. With a life devoted completely to storm chasing and extreme field research\, Dr. Timmer has intercepted over 1000 tornadoes and over 50 hurricanes over the last few decades\, and is one of the few people in history to chase both an EF5 tornado and Category 5 hurricane. He considers the up-close chasing of tornadoes an artform that is perfected over decades of experience. The famous\, tank-like storm chasing vehicles\, called the Dominators\, were invented by Timmer in 2009 for the purpose of recording data inside these most dangerous storms.Still in full operation today\, the Dominators are outfitted with state-of-the-art meteorological sensors\, and protected by an aerodynamic\, armored outer shell that can anchor to the ground with hydraulic spikes. Reed has pioneered delivery mechanisms for deployment of sensors into tornadoes and hurricanes\, such as ground-based probes\, drones\, balloons and even model rockets. Dr. Timmer has driven directly inside 10 tornadoes in the Dominator 3 since 2020 to become the storm chaser who has been inside more tornadoes than any human in History. \nReed Timmer’s most memorable storm chases include the intercept of a strong tornado in southern Nebraska with Dominator 1 on June 17\, 2009\, with on-board sensors and mobile radar measuring a 140 mph wind gust from inside the vortex; and last year\, when a trackable sensor was launched by model rocket into a mile-wide EF4 tornado in eastern Kansas using the roof-mounted rocket launcher of Dominator 3. The sensor\, as attached to a parachute\, was lofted up to 39\,000 feet by the EF4 tornado at speeds of up to 190 mph\, while recording unprecedented high-resolution (10 Hz)meteorological data throughout the 30-mile journey inside the vortex. Notable hurricane intercepts over the last 20 years include Hurricane Katrina in Slidell\, LA\, Rita in Orange\, TX; and category 5 Hurricane Michael in October 2019.In addition to field science\, Dr. Timmer also provides life-saving reports and content while storm chasing through both traditional and social media platforms. When you purchase a Garden Signature plant\, you’re taking home a true piece of the Garden.\nGarden Endorsed Plants are sourced from trusted commercial growers and grown in-house by our expert staff. These selections are chosen for their outstanding performance\, unique characteristics\, or rarity.\n\nEnjoy expert advice from our horticulture team and discover hard-to-find native plants\, all while supporting the Garden’s mission and programs. All items are available on a first-come\, first-served basis—so come early for the best selection! \nGarden Members enjoy early access to the sale on Friday\, September 26\, as a benefit of Garden Membership. The sale will be open to everyone on Saturday\, September 27. \n\nFrequently Asked Questions\n\nDo I have to pay admission to shop the Plant Sale?  \nNo admission fee is required to shop the Plant Sale! If you’d like to explore the Garden during your visit\, you can enter through the Guest Center by showing your Membership Card or purchasing general admission. The Plant Sale is located at our Horticulture & Maintenance Site\, separate from general Garden entry. \n \nWhere do I park?  \nWe recommend parking in the Dogwood Parking Lot. From there\, bring your wagon and follow the marked path down to our Horticulture & Maintenance Site to shop with ease! \n \nHow do I load my vehicle once I’ve checked out?  \nYou have two options: You can wheel your wagon of plants back to your vehicle in the Dogwood parking lot\, or you can leave your wagon with one of our volunteers and drive down through the designated cone area to the loading zone. Our team will assist you with loading your plants and get you on your way to planting! \n \nCan someone answer my questions about my plants?  \nAbsolutely! While you’re on site\, our horticulture staff\, plant experts\, and knowledgeable volunteers will be available to answer your questions and help you choose the best plants for your spaceOnce you’re home and planting\, we’re still here to help! If you have additional questions\, feel free to email us at plantinfo@hsvbg.org. Please allow 24–48 hours for a response. \n \nShould I bring anything to the sale?  \nWe recommend bringing a wagon if you have one! While we do have a limited number available on-site\, they are first-come\, first-served and tend to be fully in use during peak hours—especially in the morning.We also suggest wearing outdoor-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear\, as the sale area includes gravel paths and uneven terrain. \n \n \n \n\n\nProceeds from the sale support the ongoing mission and conservation work of the Garden.
