Through guided\, hands-on instruction\, participants will practice basic techniques such as hand-sewing\, stamping and edge finishing while gaining an understanding of different leather types and tools. Each student will complete a small leather project- such as a coin pouch or other small item – while building the skills and confidence to continue exploring leathercraft at home. All materials and tools are provided. No experience is necessary\, just bring your creativity and enthusiasm!\nInstructor: This class will be taught by local weaver and leathercrafter Emily Wallace. Emily has been teaching weaving\, spinning\, and other fiber arts to the public for over 10 years\, with more recent experience in leather crafting. She previously owned a yarn shop in Hartselle\, AL and has taught a wide range of workshops at yarn shops and studios. The class will focus on hammer control using full\, and half face blows\, to taper\, draw\, bend\, and rivet.\nPlease note: There will be a lunch break of approximately one hour. Please bring a lunch from home or plan to drive a short distance and return within an hour.\nInstructor: Al Stephens has recently retired having been a professional blacksmithing since 1992. He is a member of the Athens Forge chapter of the Alabama Forge Council. Al has taught classes for Burritt on the Mountain and Athens State University and demonstrated at local blacksmithing meetings. He is a member of the Alabama Forge Council.
