SUMMARY:Strange Trails Giveaway Hike
DESCRIPTION:Calling all Lord Huron fans! \nJoin us Thursday\, July 23\, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. for a themed evening hike at Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve inspired by Lord Huron’s Strange Trails album. As the temperatures begin to cool\, hike leader Megs will guide the group along one of our favorite routes through the preserve for a relaxing summer adventure. \nAs a bonus\, everyone who registers and attends will be entered for a chance to win two tickets to see Lord Huron at The Orion Amphitheater on July 31 and a copy of the band’s Strange Trails vinyl. \nRegistration and attendance is required to enter the giveaway. Registration Link: https://signup.com/go/Jjzyvay \n(Easy / Around 1 hour / 1.5 miles) This hike takes you along some of the more popular trails at our Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve. The trail is relatively easy\, with the first part of the walk on the Driskell Trail around our pine forest and disc golf course\, and the second part through a beautiful hardwood stand on the Chasco Trail. There are very few hills to walk up\, and none of them long or high. This isn’t the strangest of trails\, but it is a really nice walk! \nLocation: Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve – 1263 U.S Hwy 72 East\, Huntsville\, AL 35811 \nDirections: Coming from Huntsville\, cross Chapman Mountain on Hwy 72 (I-565 turns into Hwy 72) and u-turn at Moores Mill Road to go back up the hill. When safe\, get into the merge lane on the right (plenty of time). When the silver guard rail ends\, be ready to turn right onto the paved entrance. (Really! It’s just past the end of the guard rail!) Drive through the gate and down the gravel road to the parking area at the bottom of the hill. \nIf you use a map app to get there\, most people have more luck searching for “Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve” rather than the address. \nIn the event that this hike must be canceled due to weather or trail conditions\, an email will be sent to the address you use to register.

SUMMARY:Senior Saunter at Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve
DESCRIPTION:From the Saunter leader\, Lynne Weninegar:   \n\nThese walks are planned especially for those Land Trust Members who are nature lovers and at least 60 years old (or feel our age) who just want to relax and enjoy a slow pace while experiencing nature at its best.  Please come prepared for nature’s little “distractions – ants\, ticks\, other “bugs”\, and the heat”. You will need insect repellent\, snacks\, closed-toed shoes (preferably hiking boots)\, water\, sunscreen and maybe a walking stick if you need extra confidence! Non-members are welcome for their first hike with us\, but are asked to become members of the Land Trust of North Alabama prior to attending a second hike. We love providing fun for everyone on our Preserves. A membership offers you many other opportunities\, as well as provides the Land Trust the ability to continue preserving land in North Alabama! We look forward to seeing you for this year’s Senior Saunters! \n\nJoin us for a Bioblitz at Chapman Mt. and spend some time at the Bird Blind Feature and the newest birding feature just recently installed at the Preserve. If you have never participated in a Bioblitz\, this is an opportunity to “get your feet wet” and let’s see how many species of “all things living at Chapman” we can locate and document. Be sure your iNaturalist app is installed prior to coming to the event. You will enjoy using iNaturalist! Lynne will assist you if you need help! Lots of birds\, butterflies\, moths\, mammals\, lizards\, frogs\, and yes\, maybe even a snake or two to see at this event! This app is one you will be sure to use when you get back home! If you do not want to Bioblitz\, just enjoy the property! \nSign up \nIn the event this hike has to be canceled due to weather or trail conditions\, we will send a notification to the email address you use to register. \nLocation: The Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve\, 1263 U.S Hwy 72 East\, Huntsville\, AL 35811 (Directions: Coming from Huntsville\, cross Chapman Mountain on Hwy 72 and U-turn at Moores Mill Road. SUMMARY:Tree Huggers Book Club Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a nature-inspired book discussion as we kick off a new Land Trust Book Club! Our first selection is The Hidden Life of Trees by Peter Wohlleben\, a fascinating exploration of how trees communicate\, support one another\, and function as interconnected communities. Blending scientific research with personal insight\, this book offers a fresh perspective on the hidden world of forests. \nThe group will meet on April 25 from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve. A few discussion questions will be provided to guide conversation\, and all are welcome — whether you’ve finished the book or are just getting started. Feel free to bring snacks to share. \nFollowing the discussion\, a Land Trust staff member will lead an optional short walk into the woods to observe and appreciate some of our local trees up close. \nBook Tip: You should be able to buy or order the book from Snail on the Wall (a local\, independent book store) or get it from the library (book\, eBook\, or Kindle versions).  You are also encouraged to look for it at local thrift stores\, Friends of the Library stores\, or various online stores. \nRegister Here (Registering in advance is encouraged so that we can prepare.)
