SUMMARY:Monday Mountain Explorers: Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Families with elementary aged children are invited to attend these homeschool enrichment program events focused on exploring the natural environment to develop a connection to the land\, to wildlife and to each other. We will learn about Alabama’s biodiversity and natural resources through weekly seasonal nature-based themes. \nWe will read literature together to spark curiosity about the natural world\, we will discover and explore our natural environment together through walks and family-led activities\, we will introduce the concept of field journaling as a way to capture our discoveries\, and ultimately we will foster community through interactions in our natural environment. \nAdditional Notes: \n\nPlease dress appropriately and bring your own water/snacks for a short hike.\nParticipants will be provided with a field journal; participants are encouraged to keep the field journal and bring to future events.\nFamilies are invited to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy after the event.\n\nAges: Elementary aged children (ages 5-11) and their caregivers \nLocation: Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve–1263 U.S Hwy 72 East Huntsville\, AL 35811  \n\n\nDirections: Coming from Huntsville\, cross Chapman Mountain and u-turn at Moores Mill Road. DESCRIPTION:Families with young children (ages 3 to 5 years) are invited to attend these nature discovery events designed to inspire a sense of wonder about the natural world. Through the sharing of stories\, songs\, and art\, each playful exploration engages both adults and children as we make new discoveries about the plants and animals in this beautiful forest habitat. Because we believe that we protect the places that we love\, we hope to inspire young children to feel a friendly\, respectful connection to nature – forming a foundation for curiosity and enjoyment to last a lifetime. Families are welcome to stay after the event to enjoy a picnic from home. \nForest Friends is designed with activities for older toddlers and preschoolers (ages 3 to 5 years) to enjoy\, but younger siblings are welcome! \n\nCost: FREE but membership to support our mission is very much appreciated.\nReservations: Reservations are required. Space is limited. Please register using parent/guardian’s information and reserve one spot per family (not per child). There are no waitlists for these events. If spaces become available\, registration will reopen so please check back if you’re interested in attending.\nAges: 3 – 5 years. DESCRIPTION:Reptiles of Alabama \nJoin the Land Trust of North Alabama and Master Naturalist Beth Girard at Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve to learn about reptiles and amphibians in Alabama. We will learn common species and safety as well as seeing Beth’s animals up close. We will also take a short hike. \nCost: FREE but only available for Land Trust members at the Trailblazer (Family) level or above. \nReservations: Land Trust members at the Trailblazer (Family) level or above only. Reservations are required. Space is limited. Please register using parent/guardian’s information (name on your Land Trust membership) and select spots for the number of children only. SUMMARY:Hike at Chapman Mountain
DESCRIPTION:(Moderate / probably a bit more than 2 hours / 3 miles) \nCome join us at the Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve as we hike the “high trails” of the preserve. This hike will give us the opportunity to get out and see the upper elevations of the preserve. We’ll start by heading south from the pavilion on the Moonshine Trail. We’ll take the Whole Planet Trail to the Terry Trail for a walk up the hill.
