15 cool weekend events to check out in Huntsville

Well, you’ve almost made it through another week and you’re probably wondering what the weekend has in store for you. You’re in luck, because we’ve found plenty to do in and around Huntsville over the next few days.

Here are some live music options, some sports and more cool weekend events to check out in Huntsville:

Live music

From the 3-day Sluice Fest to some mellow brunch tunes, there’s a ton of live music happening in Huntsville this weekend, and live music is always among the weekend events to check out in Huntsville. Here are a few options:

  • Sluice Fest: Aug. 11-13, Gold Sprint Coffee Aug. 11, Orion Amphitheater Aug. 12-13. Sluice Fest is a three day music festival that celebrates the Sluice fanzine — a Huntsville based zine centered on music, art and community.
  • Milltowne Plays Dead: Aug. 11, Stovehouse, 7PM. Listen to these super-talented local musicians play their tribute to the music of the Grateful Dead.
  • Pat Jamar: Aug. 12, Humphrey’s Bar & Grill, 11AM. Eat some delicious brunch food and listen to the smooth tunes of Pat Jamar
  • The Beastie Goys: Aug. 12, Mars Music Hall, 7PM. This energetic Beastie Boys tribute band from the Rocket City takes the stage for a night of awesome live music.
  • Sister Luck: Aug. 12, Innerspace Brewing Co., 7PM. Check out this awesome 3-piece covering your favorite tunes, and enjoy some delicious craft beer while you’re at it.

Arts, markets + exhibits

Whether you want to check out some fabulous artwork or look at some classic cars, you’ll find plenty of weekend events to check out in Huntsville and Madison:

  • Encounters Exhibit – Courtney Egan: Through Sept. 24, Huntsville Museum of Art. Courtney Egan is a lens-based media artist, photographer and naturalist who weaves the tradition of botanical art with sculpture and digital technologies. Check out this exhibit before it leaves!
  • Village of Providence Farmers Market: Aug. 12, Village of Providence, 9AM-2PM. Some of the best arts and crafts can be found here, along with all of the fresh produce you need.
  • 3rd Annual Rocket City Octane Auto Show: Aug. 12, Von Braun Center, 10AM-4PM. Car enthusiasts from across the southeast will enjoy this family-friendly event. Trophies will be awarded, and guests can enjoy interactive activities for kids and adults.
  • Outdoor Market at Lowe Mill: Aug. 12, Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment, 11AM-4PM. Come shop booths of some of the best creators in the area. Artwork, pottery, artisan gifts of all kind and more are available for purchase.
  • Community Fun & Wellness Festival: Aug. 12, Dr. Richard Showers Recreation Center, 10AM-1PM. Activities include face-painting, bounce houses, a petting zoo, interactive sports, and health screenings on site.

Sports + fitness

Sports fans and fitness folks, we didn’t forget you either. Among many of the cool weekend events in Huntsville and surrounding areas are some minor league baseball games, stock car racing and some competition to get yourselves into as well:

  • Trash Pandas vs. Mississippi Braves: Aug. 11-13, Toyota Field, Fri. & Sat. 6:30PM, Sun. 4PM. Catch the Trash Pandas taking on the MIssissipi Braves all weekend!
  • Brothers for Life 5K: Aug. 12, Point Mallard, 8AM. This run includes a 5K race, a 5K ruck and a 1-mike fun run. Proceeds benefit Brothers for Life, which exists to support local firefighters, police officers, EMS professionals and dispatchers.
  • Racing at Huntsville Speedway: Aug. 12, Huntsville Speedway, 4PM. Pit gates open at 3PM, qualifying is at 4PM and the racing begins at 6PM. Don’t miss it!
  • Sunday Tennis: Aug. 13, 12-2PM. Huntsville Tennis Center. Tennis players of all ages and skill levels are invited to play.
  • Huntsville City FC Watch Party: Aug. 13, BeeZr, 11AM. Come join the HCFC Fan Crew at BeeZr and cheer on the HCFC as they take on Crown Legacy FC.
