2 local teachers finalists for Alabama Teacher of the Year
The Alabama Department of Education released its finalists for Alabama Teacher of the Year, and two local educators have made the list.
Blossomwood Elementary School’s Shannon Williamson and Liberty Middle School teacher Kristen Brown are two of only 16 teachers statewide named as finalists for the award.

The 2024-25 finalists for Alabama Teacher of the Year were chosen among 155 nominees across all of the state’s schools.
The two local teachers who made the final 16 are:
- Shannon Williamson, Blossomwood Elementary School Special Education teacher (Huntsville City Schools)
- Kristen Brown, Liberty Middle School Science teacher (Madison City Schools)

What’s next
This year’s pool of 16 educators will soon be narrowed down to the final Top Four. The 2024-2025 honoree will be announced by the Alabama State Board of Education and Alabama State Department of Education in May.
Alabama’s Teacher of the Year spends the school year serving as a full-time, official ambassador for both education and the teaching profession.
Alabama’s representative is a candidate for National Teacher of the Year and also conducts professional-level workshops to various groups at the local and national levels.
