The City of Huntsville will move forward with a revamping project on Holmes Ave. after receiving a $21 million grant.

The federal grant will provide significant safety enhancements along a 3.25-mile stretch of Holmes Ave. between downtown and the campus of the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Safety enhancements coming to Holmes Ave.

Planned improvements to Holmes Avenue include:

  • Installation of designated bike lanes or multiuse paths
  • Crosswalks, continuous ADA-compliant sidewalks and roadway safety striping
  • Enhanced traffic signalization at intersections and railroad crossings
  • Upgraded pedestrian safety lighting
  • New, accessible bus stops with shelters
