The John Hunt Park Recreation Center
As part of the ongoing development of John Hunt Park, a new $18.5 million recreation center will be constructed.
The new project, being helmed by Fite Building Company, is set to start construction this Fall with a 420-day building contract.
The John Hunt Park Recreation Center is going to be a massive one-story, 60,580-square-foot center which will include:
- 25 exterior pickleball courts with lighting and an engineered metal covering to prevent rainouts
- 4 full-sized gymnasiums with 4 regulation-size basketball courts, which can be striped to accommodate 8 regulation-size volleyball courts.
- A concession area and restrooms which will link the gyms to the main building
- A fitness room
- 2 multi-purpose activity rooms
- A new parking lot with 298 parking spaces
- Office space and more
“When we started planning for the new recreation center, we knew that pickleball had to be a central feature. We wanted to ensure we provided top-notch facilities for this rapidly growing sport, and we’re confident this design will make our pickleball community very happy.”
Mayor Tommy Battle
More pickleball coming to the Rocket City

Earlier this week it was announced that a new pickleball club, Pickleball Kingdom, would be opening in Huntsville sometime in the future (you can learn more about them here).
