3 October hikes to take in the Huntsville area
October is a great time to be outdoors in North Alabama. And while you are outdoors you may as well get in some terrific scenery and good exercise, right?
Well you can check all of the boxes by taking one of these awesome guided hikes in the Huntsville area.
Foraging Hike at Harvest Square – Oct. 7
Forager Casey Lanier leads this hike at Harvest Square to look at the plants throughout the area. Keep in mind, this is a 2-mile hike and is not intended for collecting plants but for discovering.

Hike at Monte Sano’s Three Caves – Oct. 22
This hike will begin with a visit to the Three Caves “bowl”, the open area just outside of the cave entrances. Normally closed to the public, the gates will be open for this hike, which is roughly two miles.

Hike at Green Mountain’s Alum Hollow Trail – Oct. 28
Take this guided hike to Alum Falls and Alum Cave, two scenic spots on the Green Mountain Nature Preserve. The trail is relatively easy, with the exception of a steep hill leading down to the waterfall and cave at the half-way point of this hike.
