Huntsville has no shortage of wonderful places, both in and outside the city.

Serving as the border between Harvest and Madison, Monrovia offers several sites that are worth checking out, especially for families searching for new activities:

Monrovia Community Center and Public Library

The Monrovia Community Center contains great opportunities for physical and mental activities, especially for families.

The Center has an upstairs track, several pickleball courts and two basketball/volleyball courts. Currently, MPRA registration is open for youth rec league basketball with games starting in November.

The Monrovia Public Library is right next door and offers a wide selection for fun reading and research. You can also access more materials from their digital library and.

The library hosts many events for the community, including engaging readings for younger children. Soon, it will also be hosting a three-week Genealogy Junior series to celebrate Family History Month and teach young students about the importance of ancestry.

For the next entry in our list, you won’t have to go far. Phillips Park is right next door to the Community Center and provides even more options for families in need of fun activities.

Kids can sign up for baseball and softball rec leagues at Phillips Park. Parents, while these leagues are almost over for the season, be sure to bookmark this information for next summer.

There is also a short walking trail circling the baseball fields as well as a playground for anyone who needs to be entertained during a game or for a chill day spent outside.

The park will be hosting its 4th annual MPRA Trunk or Treat on October 26th. (Monrovia Parks & Rec / Facebook)

Monrovia Plaza

In the nondescript Monrovia Plaza on Jeff Road, there are three great restaurants for families who are all in the mood for something different.

LawLers Barbecue is one of the most consistently tasty chain restaurants I’ve ever had. Its Monrovia Plaza location has been one of my family’s go-to options since I was a kid and has never once disappointed me.

Rookiez Wings is another delightful chain that offers a wide selection of college game-day wings and tenders combos. For families that need a lot of good food during the big game, add this spot to your radar.

Rounding out the list, Tastee’s is a sandwich shop that also has breakfast options and specialty hot dogs, coffee and milkshakes.

All three restaurants bring something different to the table, but all are worth a visit for your family’s next meal.

  • Where: 1047 Jeff Rd NW, Huntsville, AL 35806
  • LawLer’s hours: Monday-Saturday, 10:30AM-8PM
  • Rookiez Wings hours: Monday-Saturday, 11AM-9PM
  • Tastee’s hours: Monday-Friday, 7AM-8PM; Saturday, 9AM-8PM

Like the many other suburban communities that make up the larger Huntsville area, Monrovia has many neat little stops. While they may not be as glamorous as downtown, it’s places like these that make Huntsville a well-rounded place to live for both city and suburban residents.
