4 high schoolers assist during Tanglewood Apartments fire + find out how you can help victims

In a truly remarkable story, four Lindsay Lane Christian Academy football players helped prevent a catastrophe during a fire at the Tanglewood Apartments on September 11.

The football players were driving through the area when they saw smoke rising from a building. Before Athens Fire & Rescue was even on the scene, the boys stopped and began notifying residents of the fire, as well as assisting them in leaving their apartments.

Athens Fire and Rescue Chief James Hand said that eight units were impacted by the fire, and four were a total loss — but not a single person was injured.

“This highlights our great community and shows how responsible these young men are. What an example they set on a day like today – the 25th anniversary of 9/11. I appreciate our crews responding quickly and doing a great job controlling the fire. We are thankful no one was hurt.”
