Upgrades worth $4M on the way to 3 Huntsville-area airports

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) announced on November 5, 2026, that $73M worth of upgrades were on the way to airports across the state.
Of the $73M, $53.6M is coming from federal funding, $7.3M from airport contributions and $12.1M from state grants through the Alabama Airport Improvement Funding Program.
Improvement projects include just about anything you can imagine, including new parking lots, taxiway extensions and even wildlife fencing — but what does it mean for our local airports?
Three local airports are receiving upgrades:
- Huntsville International Airport
- $218K for a new aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicle
- $2.5M to construct a storage building for snow removal equipment
- Huntsville Executive Airport
- $877K for an environmental study, environmental mitigation and the rehabilitation of Taxiways 1 and 2
- Pryor Field Regional Airport (Limestone County)
- $463K for terminal apron sealcoating and markings
