Here are 5 fall hiking excursions you need to try in North Alabama

Fall is coming in just a few weeks, and being outdoors during autumn weather is about as pleasant as you can get here in Alabama. So why not get out in nature and enjoy the season with a few hiking excursions?
Here are five guided hikes you can take over the next few months:
Bethel Spring – Sept. 28
This hike will start with an easy walk on the Bethel Creek Loop Trail, but get a bit more challenging as the route follows the Carpenter and Falling Sink Trails up to Madison County’s largest waterfall.

Rainbow Mountain – Oct. 5
Participants during this hike will travel along one of the most popular trails on the preserve, Rainbow Loop Trail. This hike’s route will cover nearly the entirety of that trail with the exception of a short detour to Balance Rock Trail.

Foraging Hike at Harvest Square – Oct. 12
Join Casey Lanier of the Land Trust of North Alabama at Harvest Square to find the fruits of the fall forest on a guided foraging hike.

Hickory Cove – Oct. 13
Hikers will walk this preserve’s primary trail, the Legacy Loop. Covering much of the preserve, this hike will show you some of the beauty this hillside has to offer, especially in the colors of the fall.

Chapman Mountain – Oct. 19
For this hike, your hike leader will take the group through the “flat” part of the preserve, exploring the Driskell and Chasco Trails as well as parts of the Terry and Moonshine Trails.
