If you’re like me and have been pursuing healthy eating for years, you realize it entails way more than just eating salads.

Don’t get me wrong—I love a good salad. But if you’re looking for a bit more variety, check out these five healthy Huntsville restaurants.

1. Commerce Kitchen

Did you know that vegetables and fruits peak in their nutritional values when they’re in-season?

Curated by Huntsville chef James Boyce, Commerce Kitchen’s menu rotates with the seasons and presents premier farm-to-table fare.

Our recommendations on the current lunch menu: Roasted Harissa Salmon + Chicken Pot Pie

2. Sea Salt

Did you know that oysters are a great source of zinc? (Lacey Muenstermann / Hville Blast)

You may not have realized that oysters are one of nature’s multivitamins, containing vitamin B12, zinc, iron, manganese, vitamin E, calcium and more.

At Sea Salt, you can order freshly shucked oysters from the Gulf, plus east and west coats. And if oysters are not your style, they also have delicious tuna tacos and shrimp ceviche.

3. Oshi Poke Bowl + Sushi

November
The Chicken Ramen from Oshi Poke Bowl and Sushi is a great dish to keep on rotation this winter. (Lacey Muenstermann / Hville Blast)

One of my favorite and least favorite parts about walking into Oshi Poke Bowl is hearing the staff ask, “Sushi, poke or ramen?”

It’s my favorite part because I know I can’t go wrong and my least favorite because it’s so hard to decide!

Almost everything on Oshi’s menu is packed with vegetables, and you can add ingredients like seaweed—a super nutrient-dense you can’t find in most places.

Our recommendation? Order a poke bowl with less rice if you’re on a low-carb diet. If you’re not so worried about the carbs, the sushi and ramen are both well-rounded meals.

4. Main Street Cafe

Located in Madison, Main Street Cafe has one of my favorite lunch menus in town. My go-to is the Chicken Salad Plate, which contains a large scoop of chicken salad, English pea salad, frozen arctic salad (a fun yogurt + fruit-based treat) and a hearty slice of pumpkin bread.

I haven’t tried the Blackened Salmon Salad yet, but I’ve heard it’s incredible.

  • Where: 101 Main St, Madison, AL 35758
  • When: Monday-Tuesday 11AM-2PM | Wednesday-Thursday 11AM-2PM, 5-8PM | Friday-Saturday 11AM-2PM, 5-9PM

5. Nautical Bowls

Relatively new to the Huntsville area, Nautical Bowls has two locations—one in Madison and one in Huntsville. If you have any dairy, soy or gluten intolerances, their menu is accommodating. They also have lots of plant-based options.

Our recommendation is the Blue Bay Bowl (pictured above), filled with blue majik, açaí, coconut, spirulina chia, granola, banana, strawberries and coconut butter crumbles.
