5 Points Porch Fest + more awesome events this weekend in the Rocket City

Hey Huntsville, it’s time for the weekend (almost) and looking over the slate of events this weekend — in addition to the plethora of Cinco de Mayo celebrations Friday — tells me that if you end up doing nothing this weekend, it’s because you chose to.
Check out these events in and around Huntsville this weekend:
Live Music
This is a great weekend for live music! There are plenty of live shows to attend, plus the 5 Points Porch Fest, which is always a blast and such a cool idea for a music festival! Check out these shows happening this weekend:
- Beasley Brothers: May 5, Stovehouse, 6PM. Check out this country music duo based in Nashville for this free show at Stovehouse!
- Breaking Benjamin: May 5, Propst Arena, 7PM. Not only is Breaking Bejamin taking the stage, but theor guest is equally popular grunge band Bush!
- The Black Jacket Symphony Presents Tom Petty’s Full Moon Fever: May 6, Mark C. Smith Music Hall, 5PM, 9PM. This is one of the most popular albums of all time, being played in its entirety by Black Jacket Symphony.
- 5 Points Porch Fest: May 6, 5 Points neighborhood, 5PM-9PM. Take a stroll through the 5 Points neighborhood in Huntsville and stop to see some cool live music on the porches of these homes in the neighborhood. This is a great event for any music lover!
- Microwave Dave: May 7, Humphrey’s Bar & Grill, 11AM. Enjoy brunch on the patio at Humphrey’s in Downtown Huntsville with the music of Huntsville legend Microwave Dave.
Sports + Fitness
Whether you are looking to watch some live baseball, enhoy the Kentucky Derby, play some soccer or run a 5K, we have you covered:
- Trash Pandas vs. Smokies: May 5-7, Toyota Field, Fri. & Sat. 6:30PM, Sun. 2:30PM. Cheer on your Rocket City Trash Pandas as they close out their homestand against the Tennessee Smokies.
- Indoor Soccer: May 5, Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Recreation Center, 5:30PM. Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with an evening of indoor soccer fun! Games will take place from 5:30-7:30PM, and while all levels of players are welcome the event is for ages 18 and up, please. Athletic shoes are required. Indoor soccer shoes are recommended.
- Give it Back Track 5K: May 6, Twickenham District, 7AM. This certified 5K course begins at the corner of Lowe Avenue and Adams Street and takes runners through beautiful downtown Huntsville, including the Twickenham and Old Town Historic Districts, then ends at Huntsville Junior High School.
- Kentucky Derby Watch Party: May 6, Prohibition, 3PM. Watch the 149th Kentucky Derby at Prohibition this year. They’ll be celebrating all night, so make sure to bring your biggest hats and appetites!
- Love & Hiking Date For Couples: May 7, Sparkman Park, 10AM. Enjoy a self-guided hike with your significant other (this is a great time of year to hike, by the way) at Sparkman Park!
Festivals, Shows, Markets
Did I mention that there are plenty of cool events this weekend in Huntsville? Well I wasn’t kidding. Check out these events as well:
- Die Fledermaus: May 5-7, Faith Presbyterian Church, Fri. & Sat. 7PM, Sun. 3PM. Opera Huntsville presents this classic operetta by Johann Strauss.
- Rocket City Kittypalooza 2023: May 6, Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment, 11AM-7PM. Come join the 3rd Annual Rocket City Kittypalooza! Cattyshack, Inc. and Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment are hosting a multi-rescue adoption event in the First Floor Connector.
- Fido Fest: May 6, Bridge Street Town Centre, 12PM. Bring your pooch and enjoy the 8th Annual Fido Fest in the Belk courtyard in the Bridge Street Town Centre! This free family event benefits the Greater Huntsville Humane Society.
- Madison City Farmers Market: May 6, Trinity Baptist Church, 8AM-12PM. Stock up on fresh local produce and enjoy yourself at the best farmers market in town.
- Japanese Spring Festival: May 7, Monte Sano State Park, 12:30PM. Celebrate Japanese culture at the 20th Annual Spring Festival with a special guest from Japan, former Japanese astronaut, Dr. Mamoru Mohri!
