5 Points Recording comes to Huntsville by way of Nashville
Reading time: 3 minutes
As we covered earlier this month, September is officially Huntsville Music Month, and there is plenty to celebrate when it comes to the Huntsville music scene. But what sometimes gets lost in the praise and fanfare of a music scene are the producers, engineers and studio operators that get these musicians recorded.
So my afternoon meeting up with Justin Miller, founder of 5 Points Recording, reminded me just how important these behind-the-scenes music makers actually are.
From Nashville to Huntsville
Five Points Recording is a professional audio facility located in the heart of the Five Points district, and features a 10,000 cubic-foot tracking room + two isolation booths for vocals and amplifiers, and an isolated mixing room.
Bands can enjoy zero latency over Pro Tools HDX, while having full control over individual musician mix levels. Okay, so you may not know what all of this means, but I can tell you this: Justin Miller has a top-notch recording facility.
Miller, who started playing guitar at age 6 and followed his love of music to college at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, spent several years recording musicians at his studio in Nashville before bringing his talents to Huntsville.
Miller transformed the space at 200 Andrew Jackson Way into a professional studio starting in 2019 and put a great deal of labor and love into the transformation.
“Huntsville is a great music town, and its right in between Nashville and Birmingham so we are in a great spot for musicians to come record. And right here in the community, there is a lot of talent.”
Justin Miller, founder of 5 Points Recording
Although 5 Points Recording officially opened in 2021, business really started picking up when the pandemic started to ease up this year. Now, Miller has about a 2 to 3 week lead time for studio booking time.
In other words, business is good.
What 5 Points Recording offers
Miller’s studio can be utilized for a variety of things, including:
- Recording a record
- Custom music production
- Scoring / Audio for film and game music
- Recording for Podcasts and Audiobooks
- Dialogue replacement recording for film
- Live concert recording / music events
Tracks produced by Miller have appeared on The Voice, Hallmark, Best Cover Ever, Redbull, countless radio stations across the US, the ACMs and more.
Miller is also co-founder of Nashville Sampling Co., a project dedicated to creating unique Nashville-style drum tools.
Also, 5 Points Recording has a “bunk room” for artists to stay overnight when they are recording, which makes coming to Huntsville to record that much easier.
