Although “officially” summer does not begin until the end of June, “summer vacation” — meaning when kids get out of school for a couple of months — begins in just a few weeks. So what will your kids do to occupy their time?

Well, here’s an idea (really, five ideas) for you: check out these summer day camps in the Huntsville area:

Huntsville Parks & Recreation Day Camps

The City of Huntsville’s Parks & Recreation Department offers a variety of different options for summer day camps, with varying themes.

Camps are offered at select Parks & Recreation centers during summer break. They are open to children, grades 1-6, who live within the City of Huntsville or attend Huntsville City Schools.

Day camps will run June 5-July 28, 2023. Hours of operation are 7:30AM to 6PM, Monday through Friday. Morning and afternoon snacks are provided.

YMCA Day Camps

YMCA camp programs are conveniently located in Huntsville, Madison, and Guntersville. YMCA camp options include:

Huntsville Botanical Garden Camps

The award-winning Huntsville Botanical Garden offers 10 different summer camp themes in June and July, with options available for ages 4-12 (students entering Kindergarten through grade 6).

Camp programs are immersive experiences designed to foster your child’s connection to the natural world. Through hands-on, engaging STEM activities, our certified instructors guide campers through natural exploration and the role we all play in our environment. Campers participate in a variety of outdoor projects and play activities that inspire curiosity, creativity, and exploration.

North Alabama Zoological Society Day Camps

The NALZS has a couple of options for summer day camps. (NALZS)

Your kids can participate in a variety of fun activities designed by the North Alabama Zoological Society to promote awareness of Alabama biodiversity, ecosystems and conservation.

Some of the activities the campers will enjoy include art projects, games, educational activities, multiple hands-on experiences, and lots of time outside enjoying Alabama at its best.

Pine Ridge Day Camp + Equestrian Center

Pine Ridge Day Camp is nestled on more than 120 acres including rolling fields, beautifully wooded hills and a sparkling lake. Campers will have the opportunity to participate in lots of activities including horseback riding, swimming, canoeing, archery, rock-wall climbing, zip-lining, high and low ropes challenge courses and more!
