Are you looking for ways to make friends in Huntsville? Check out these ways to meet people and have fun (all just a few minutes away from Downtown Huntsville).
1. Take up a new sport, like golfing

Now is the perfect time to try a new outdoor sport as fall weather approaches. Reach out to some friends who would be down for picking up a hobby and making it a regular activity.
As a working adult, one of the biggest challenges in maintaining friendships is balancing everyone’s schedules. Thankfully, Huntsville Country Club’s private course doesn’t require tee times. Members can walk on and play at any time—great for those last-minute plans.
If you’re ready to level up your golf skills, Huntsville Country Club also offers:
- Custom golf club fittings
- Golf lessons
- Regular men’s games
- New ladies’ clinic
- Monthly women’s scramble
- Trackman training room
2. Enjoy wine + chatting through a Wine Club
Having a regular reoccurring event to build into your calendar can give you something to look forward to. I find that regular clubs and activities are a great social outlet.
The Wine Club at Huntsville Country Club is a monthly wine tasting event that’s fun for a girls night out or double date night with other locals. View the details below:
- What: Themed wine tasting nights with food pairings | 3-4 wines
- When: Every third Tuesday
- Where: Huntsville Country Club
- Price: $30/couple | $20/single | +$10/person for food pairing
3. Find your “third space” with a social club

There has been a steady rise in the importance of third places—places outside of work or home that you can frequent and build ongoing connections.
A good third place is somewhere close by and often occupied by local community members with common interests. There are many examples such as coffee shops, gyms and even social clubs.
Joining a social club, like the City Social membership at Huntsville Country Club, is a dynamic way to create a “third place” for yourself. Only ten minutes away from Downtown Huntsville, you can stop by any time to enjoy the amenities or attend a social event. Plus, you’ll start to spot other regulars and soon develop connections with others.
Huntsville Country Club social events include:
- Sunday Brunch
- Wednesday Night Dinner
- Pool Parties
- Summer concert series
- Wine Club
- Painting nights
- Holiday events
In addition to member events like these, you can find regulars in the 19th Hole Grille during their lunch breaks or in the Clubhouse for business luncheons.
There’s a reason characters in TV shows are always going to the same bar or restaurant—you’ll get to develop your own plot lines with friends, new and old.
Join Huntsville Country Club and find your third place today.
4. Gather + cool off at the pool
With Alabama’s lingering summer heat, you can count on families and adults alike to pack up for a pool day.
With beautiful views and a peaceful environment, Huntsville Country Club’s newly renovated pool (with a pool house) is less busy than your neighborhood or public pools.
Grab your friends to relax poolside and enjoy seasonal pool events and servers in the summertime.
- Officially open Memorial Day through Labor Day
- Pool is treated year-round, so members are welcome anytime.
- Fun fact: This is one of the last pools in Huntsville that is 12ft deep!
5. Enter friendly competitions with like-minded people

A great way to start building community is participating in friendly competitions, and joining a country club is a great way to find them (no matter your skill level).
With several signature tournament events, Huntsville Country Club members enjoy a level of play and pampering that can’t be found at local public courses in the area.
If you just want to dip your toes in, you can join weekly games for both men and women of all abilities.
If your eyes are set on the long-haul, the Club just kicked off the new Bob Lowery Player of the Year Award: a season-long competition to earn enough points to be named player of the year. Members can also qualify to play in the prestigious Ryder Cup Style Oak Cup competition held at the end of each season.
All of these competitions are great ways to meet other members and enjoy the fun of golfing. There’s nothing like a good competition to bring out the kid in you and start building a local network.
