5 ways to celebrate MLK Day in the Huntsville area

The nationwide celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, commonly referred to as MLK Day, is January 19, and if you are looking for ways to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King, we have a few options to pass along here in the Huntsville area.
MLK Day events in the Rocket City

Here are some events in and around town to celebrate MLK Day:
Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration Parade
- Begins Saturday at 12PM in Downtown Huntsville
- The parade will have a Grandstand viewpoint located at the intersection of Church Street and Holmes Avenue.
- The 2026 theme is “Keeping the Dream Alive.”
“Louder Than Ever!” MLK Open Mic
- Sunday, January 18th at 6PM, Hermitage Clubhouse, 110 Daniel Smith Dr. in Madison
- The Tennessee Valley’s premier expressionists will gather for a night of powerful performance, reflection and community to honor the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
- Admission is $20
- In addition to the performances, guests will enjoy light refreshments.
- Monday, 6-9PM at the Omega Center, 181 Import Circle
- This is a free community dinner with live music, art, recognition of local leaders and a keynote by Jessica Fortune Barker.
2026 Athens-Limestone County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration
- Monday, 9AM, Limestone County Courthouse
- The King Unity March will start with a wreath laying on the west side of the Limestone County Courthouse
- The march will then travel to the Veterans Museum for the annual MLK Program, Essay and Art Contest at 9:30AM.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Unity Breakfast
- Monday, 8AM VBC Saturn Ballroom
- The Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Unity Celebration is the largest such event in the southeastern United States, with over 1,300 attendees.
- Hosted by Delta Theta Lambda Education Foundation
