5 ways to spend your Labor Day weekend in Huntsville

Labor Day weekend is here and we’ve put together five ways to spend it. Keep reading to find your weekend plans.

1. School on the weekend

Campus No. 805 used to be where kids dreaded to go, but with cool new updates, it’s now the place to be.

The remodel now features breweries, dining, entertainment and retail. There is also a speakeasy behind the lockers, so keep your eyes peeled. Just don’t find detention!

2. Stroll through Big Spring Park

This Labor Day weekend, you can get to know your city. Take a walk through downtown and be sure to wander through Big Spring Park. Here, you’ll find the best photo op—a welcome to Huntsville mural. Long weekends are meant for relaxing, so bring a picnic and chill out with pretty park views.

3. Hit up some stops on the Craft Coffee Trail

Take Labor Day weekend to enjoy a nice cup of coffee or tea. A coffee shop is an excellent place to hang with friends or family, or have some much-needed alone time. The Craft Coffee Trail has 10 stops, each offering a stamp card, so you can track all the places you’ve been along the trail. Once you get all the stamps, you’ll redeem your stamp card and get a commemorative Craft Coffee Trail mug.

4. Float down Flint River

Get your float on this long weekend along Flint River in Brownsboro. Here you will find North Alabama Canoe and Kayak (NACK) where you can rent whatever water gear and supplies you need.

Have your own canoe or kayak? They’ll shuttle it to the river for you for $25 per person. Otherwise, rentals cost $45 per person, $25 per child ages 6-12 and free for children under 5.

The trip takes a total of three hours and is sure to be memorable. You’ll want to bring food, sunscreen, bug spray, water shoes and we already looked into it—yes, drinks. There is room for a small cooler on every rental.

5. Check out Monte Sano State Park

When Labor Day weekend comes to mind, I think of all things outdoors. Monte Sano State Park is exactly that.

Here you can enjoy 20 miles of hiking, 14 miles of biking and 2,140 acres of exploring.

You can also take in the spectacular views, native plants and everything else Alabama’s Monte Sano has to offer. Whether you’re interested in camping or just spending the day, Monte Sano is a great activity for your Labor Day itinerary.

There are daily use fees or annual park memberships available.
