6 beautiful murals to check out when you’re in Decatur
We all know Huntsville has some incredible murals, and that our friends in Athens just unveiled a new artwork downtown. Across the river, the city of Decatur has beautiful murals that you can see as part of the Morgan County Mural Trail.
Here are a few of our favorites:
What Lifts You
If you’ve seen the popular wing murals in Nashville or Atlanta, you’ve seen the work of Kelsey Montague. Decatur is home to Alabama’s first Montague mural which makes for a perfect and fun photo.

The new Johnston Street Alley mural
The Johnston Street Alley in downtown Decatur is becoming completely revamped, and it includes a vibrant mural that spans the entire project. The hot air balloons in the top left actually protrude from the building, giving the way a 3D look.

Homecoming
The creator of this mural, Adam Stephenson, is from Decatur. His mural features a portrait of his sister, Lara Lee, who passed away 13 years ago.

Jimmy “Yellow Horse” Webster
This mural honors prominent Cherokee activist from Decatur, Jimmy “Yellowhorse” Webster. It was painted by Michael McPheeters.

Decatur, naturally
Prominently featured on Moulton Street, this mural was designed by students at Decatur High School to showcase the town’s natural beauty.

Well, Hello
Find this beautiful mural off of Bank Street and Vine Street. It was painted by Glenn Mitchell, who is a designer and photographer local to Decatur.
