6 Ways to celebrate Black History Month in Huntsville

Huntsville is rich in Black history and culture.
Here are some events and activities you can do this month to celebrate and learn about the impact that African Americans have made both in the South and Huntsville.
A Moment in Time at the Orion
Though not technically a Black History Month event, the first of the ‘A Moment in Time’ series presented by The Orion focuses on Black voices and art in the Huntsville area.
Featured guests include Huntsville civil rights leader Sonnie Hereford IV, poet Dr. Cynthia Lankford, artist Adrian Jennings and more.
Admission to this event is free.

An Evening with Wil Haygood at the Huntsville Museum of Art
Wil Haygood, the acclaimed biographer and author focusing on historical events in the civil rights movement, will honor Huntsville local and activist Bobby Bradley at the Huntsville Museum of Art.
The night will include a presentation by Wil Haygood, a cocktail hour, and dinner.
Tickets for the event are $200 for members and $250 for non-members.

6th annual Midwest Invitational Black Rodeo at Alabama A&M
The Midwest Invitational Black Rodeo is coming back to Huntsville this year.
The rodeo celebrates African Americans’ role in shaping the West and will include several hands-on demonstrations.
General Admission tickets are $25.

African Americans in Education and the Arts at Burrit on the Mountain
Burrit on the Mountain is commemorating Black History Month with a day of education and hands-on activities.
The day includes crafts, a scavenger hunt and a look at the life of Booker T Washington.
The event is included with general admission into the park.

Constellation presents Afro-Creole Songs & Negro Spirituals at UAH
UAH’s Constellation concert series will be honoring Black History Month with a show centered around Afro-Creole songs and Negro spirituals.
General admission / live-stream access is $10, student tickets are $5.

Black in the South Film Series at the Downtown Huntsville Public Library
The Downtown Huntsville Public Library will be presenting a series of films throughout February that highlight the Black experience in the South through cinema.
