The Land Trust of North Alabama announced that 65 Green Mountain Nature Preserve has now grown by 65 acres following the $300,000 purchase, made possible through the support of community members, partners and donors.

The newly protected land is located off Green Mountain Road just north of Camelot Drive, with access directly from the roadway at the base of the mountain.

The 65-acre parcel consists of upland hardwood forest that supports diverse native plant and animal species. In addition to its ecological value, the land provides an important green viewshed along Green Mountain Road and serves as a natural buffer to development pressures in South Huntsville.

The tract connects Blevins Gap Nature Preserve to already conserved land on Green Mountain, strengthening a key wildlife and habitat corridor along the mountain’s western slope while protecting water resources and preserving scenic views.

“The property has long been a priority for conservation as part of the Land Trust’s River to Gap project, a vision to establish a continuous conservation corridor stretching from the Tennessee River to Blevins Gap.

By linking existing protected lands, the project enhances habitat connectivity, supports outdoor recreation opportunities and safeguards the ecological integrity of Green Mountain.”
