As spring gets in to full swing, we do want to bring your attention to Earth Day, which is April 22. And with that in mind, we have several opportunities for you to volunteer your time to make the Huntsville area a more environmentally healthy place to live, work and play.

Environmental conservation volunteer opportunities in North Alabama

Over the next several weeks, you can join in on a bevy of cleanup events in and around Huntsville, including events with the Land Trust of North Alabama, Tennessee Riverkeeper and the Huntsville Green Team.

Check these out:

  • April 3 Trail Care at Bethel Springs: Join the Land Trust of North Alabama to work on trail improvements along Carpenter Trail at Bethel Springs Nature Preserve 11AM-1PM. (2641 Cherry Tree Road).
  • April 4 – Trail Care at Cane Creek Canyon: Join Cane Creek Land Stewards in trail care work, including building natural steps and water control features, updating trail markers and assisting with trail cutbacks and clearing debris from trails (251 Loop Rd, Tuscumbia, AL 35674).
  • April 11 – District 1 Community Cleanup Day: Pitch in with Green Team and City Council Member Michelle Watkins from 9- 11AM at Richard Showers Jr. Recreation Center (4600 Blue Spring Rd NW). All ages are welcome and supplies are provided.
  • April 12 – River Cleanup at Joe Wheeler State Park: Join Tennessee Riverkeeper for a cleanup day At Joe Wheeler Park. Meet at the First Creek Boat Launch. Event takes place 2-5:30PM (4401 McLean Drive, Rogersville, AL 35652).
  • April 22 – Earth Day Cleanup at Bud Cramer Park: Celebrate Earth Day with Green Team from 4-6PM for a cleanup of Bud Cramer Park (600 Meridian Street North) and the surrounding community.
  • April 26 – Trail Care at Cane Creek Canyon: If you missed the opportunity earlier in the month, you can join Cane Creek Land Stewards again with some trail care work: building natural steps and water control features, updating trail markers and assisting with trail cutbacks and clearing debris from trails (251 Loop Rd, Tuscumbia, AL 35674).
  • May 9 – Ditto Landing Cleanup Day: Sponsored by the Heart of the Valley YMCA, the project will include plenty of outdoor cleaning opportunities, including trash pick-up, trimming bushes and growth, spreading topsoil and compost, planting flowers, cutting down dead trees, painting, and striping parking lots (8AM-12PM, 293 Ditto Landing Rd SE).
