Alabama A&M alum Jasmine “Jazz” McKenzie, a current contestant on the 28th season of NBC’s “The Voice,” continues to impress the celebrity judges on the show, moving on to the next round of the competition this week.

McKenzie achieved the rare “four chair turn” in the opening blind auditions in September, and dazzled the judges/coaches again this week.

McKenzie faced off with team mate, Trinity, in a duet of Jamiroquai’s “Virtual Insanity.” The judges did not hold back in their praise for McKenzie’s performance.

“Lord have mercy! I used to be on tour with Jamiroquai, and y’all took that man’s song and put some herbs and spices on it. This right here is what ‘The Voice’ is built on: great showmanship. That was entertainment at its finest.”

McKenzie’s coach, Michael Buble, had to choose between his McKenzie and Trinity as to who moves on to the next round, and while he said it was a tough choice, he went with Mckenzie.

“(You have) this wonderful, powerful voice, and this is the essence of what this show is about.”

Season 28 of “The Voice” airs Monday and Tuesday evenings, starting at 7PM CST. The next “The Battles” episode will air Oct. 20, according to the NBC website. Once contestants have gone through “The Battles,” McKenzie and the remaining contestants will appear in what’s known as “The Knockouts.”
