Wims began his tenure as president at AAMU January 1, 2022, after serving at the university as provost and vice president of research and sponsored programs for 12 years.

Wims’ initial contract was extended two years ago to December 31, 2030 with the new extension and salary increase now extending his tenure to 10 years. The contract extension and compensation adjustment followed the Board’s annual presidential evaluation.

This second contract extension aligns with the university’s priority of stability and leadership to achieve continued growth, according to the university.

“I thank the Board of Trustees for the opportunity to continue serving Alabama A&M. The collective commitment and dedication of our administrative team, faculty, staff, students and alumni is to be commended.

I look forward to our continued growth and success as we elevate Alabama A&M to produce the brightest students to become leaders who are change makers.”
