Huntsville Fire + Rescue (HFR) recently donated one of their fire trucks to a tech school to help train and recruit future firefighters. Read about their intention and the backstory of this idea below.

Why Huntsville Fire Department donated

The Madison County Career Tech Center was the recipient of this donation. This Huntsville fire truck was previously a reserve unit after HFR’s new fleet of trucks in 2022. The truck, although dated, will make a practical asset for the training of future firefighters.

“[Our driver engineer] knows firsthand the challenges of recruiting both career and volunteer firefighters. We appreciate him spearheading the initiative, working closely with the Madison County Board of Education and the Alabama Fire College to secure their support.”

Howard McFarlen, Chief of Huntsville Fire + Rescue

Despite its age, the truck is not without utility and will provide more benefit to trainees than profit from auctioning off. It originally served at Station 8 on North Memorial Parkway before being transferred to Station 15 on Mountain Gap Rd.

The Madison County Career Tech Center is a career high school in Huntsville that prepares students for entering into the workforce. Check out their page here to learn more about what they do.
