We’ve got great newsβ€”the 16th annual Rocket City Short Film Festival is back in Huntsville, Saturday, October 9. Here are five reasons you need to check it out.

1. It’s Saturday, October 9, starting at 7PM

The pandemic may have caused the beloved Rocket City Short Film Festival to be cancelled last year, but it’s back in 2021, and it’s going to be awesome. While they continue to iron out the details, one thing is certainβ€”we’re marking our calendars for Saturday, October 9. The films will be starting at 7PM.

2. The Alabama Filmmakers Co-Op is sure to put on a good show

Alabama Filmmakers Co-Op was created to fund education, workshops and networking opportunities for filmmakersβ€”specifically those right here in North Alabama. After talking with Alabama Filmmakers Co-Op Chairman Alex Gibson, we’re excited to see the short films submitted by fellow Alabamians. Gibson said his goal of the Rocket City Short Film Festival is to educate the public about these short films and their filmmakers.

3. Lowe Mill is the perfect setting for a film festival

The newly renovated Studio Theater at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment in Huntsville is where you’ll find the 2021 Rocket City Short Film Festival. Lowe Mill is a great place to meet other local artists. Click for three reasons to visit Lowe Mill.

4. You can bring your kids

Alex Gibson estimated that there will be around 20 films and they are continuing to find more shorts to include.

The first part of the night will be rated PG or lower, followed by an intermission. After intermission, they will play films for more mature audiences. Families with young children can come for the first half and avoid having to cover your child’s eyes and ears, or having to miss the event altogether.

What’s a movie without snacks? There will be plenty of options for purchase at the film festival. We’ve even heard you might be able to bring your ownβ€”stay tuned for updates.

5. Your ticket supports local filmmakers
