‘Adventures in Imagination’ exhibit coming to Huntsville Museum of Art

The Huntsville Museum of Art will open a new exhibit next month, featuring the work of Brooklyn, NY, artist Donato Giancola. The exhibit, “Adventures in Imagination,” showcases the artist’s work specializing in narrative realism with science fiction and fantasy content.

About the artist
Donatoto Giancola is considered the most successful sci-fi/fantasy illustrators working today. He creates engaging paintings that bridge the worlds of contemporary and historical figurative arts.
Born in 1967 and raised in Vermont, Giancola attended Syracuse University from 1989-1992. Immediately after graduating Summa Cum Laude with a BFA in Painting, he moved to New York City to immerse himself in the inspired and varied art scene found there.
He spent the early 90s in New York City as the studio assistant to the preeminent figure painter Vincent Desiderio, and he began his professional career in 1993.
Giancola’s list of clients has grown to include major book publishers and collectors in New York to concept design firms on the West Coast, including the United Nations, LucasFilm, National Geographic, CNN, DC Comics and more.
About ‘Adventures in Imagination’
Exclusive to the Huntsville Museum of Art, “Adventures in Imagination” will include a range of thematic subjects, including paintings and drawings based on the popular HBO series Game of Thrones, J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter, J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, and the fantasy tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons.
Also included are works created to illustrate the covers and stories of recent fantasy novels, as well as other surprises.
“Adventures in Imagination” open Oct. 30 and runs through Jan. 22. A lecture and preview party with Giancola will be held at the HMA Tuesday, Nov. 1 from 6PM to 8PM. Reservations can be made for the event beginning Oct. 4.
Thursday, Nov. 17 is a cosplay night where you can suit up as your favorite cosplay character and view the exhibit!
