NEW: Leader of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade chosen–it’s Alabama A&M

Alabama A&M will be the first band seen by millions of people across the country who watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The Marching Maroon and White will lead the 97th parade on Thurs., Nov. 23 at 8:30AM.
The Dancin’ Divas will also be featured in a performance with the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall, according to a press release sent by the university.
The only HBCU in the historic parade
Alabama A&M is the only historically Black college and university (HBCU) performing in the parade this year. Eight other bands from across the country were also chosen to perform in the parade including:
- Fishers High School Marching Tiger Band (Fisher, Ind.)
- Greendale High School Marching Band (Greendale, Wis.)
- Jenison High School Marching Band (Jenison, Mich.)
- Mercer Island High School Marching Band (Mercer Island, Wash.)
- NYPD Marching Band (New York, N.Y.)
- O’Fallon Township High School Marching Panthers (O’Fallon, Ill.)
- Rutgers University Marching Scarlet Knights (Piscataway, N.J.)
- Stoneman Douglas Eagle Regiment (Parkland, Fla.)
- Texas Tech University Goin’ Band from Raiderland (Lubbock, Texas)
Only a handful of schools from Alabama have ever played in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. They are:
- University of Alabama (2021)
- Homewood High School (2018, 2011, 2006, 2000, 1995, 1990, 1986, 1981, 1978)
- Albertville High School (2007, 1992, 1987, 1983)
- Baker High School (2004)
- Pinson Valley High School (2003, 1997)
- Miles College (2002)
- Hoover High School (2001)
- Jacksonville State University (1996)
When + where you can watch Alabama A&M perform
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade occurs yearly each Thanksgiving Day. This year, it will take place on Thurs., Nov. 23 and start at 8:30AM. NBC and Peacock will broadcast the parade live from New York City.
