Albertville airport to receive $270K for new upgrades

The Federal Aviation A and the Alabama Department of Transportation announced that several small airports in the state will receive grants for various upgrades. In our part of the state, the Albertville Regional Airport is part of that list, slated to receive $270,000 in grants.

These funds are part of more than $3.1 million in Alabama airport grants from ALDOT to support improvement projects at 11 local airports.

What’s happening at the Albertville airport?

The grants are part of ALDOT’s Alabama Airport Improvement Funding Program, which provides financial assistance and technical support to public-use airports across the state.

Eligible projects may include:

• Land acquisition
• Runway upgrades
• Facility repairs
• Maintenance
• Operational improvements

For the Albertville Regional Airport, the funds have been awarded for:

• Reconstruction of the medium intensity runway lighting system
• Reconstruction of the medium intensity taxi-way lighting system
• Replacement of the precision approach path indicator
• Installation of runway end identifier lights
