Applications for Spring 2026 Civic Engagement Academy now open

Applications are currently open for the Spring 2026 cohort of the Civic Engagement Academy, a popular initiative spearheaded by the City of Huntsville to promote civic engagement among constituents 19 and up.
Anyone can participate, and the program offers the unique opportunity to learn about Huntsville’s government structure from those actively involved with it.
Keep reading to learn more about how you can sign up for this spring’s class.
What is CEA?
Do you have a budding passion for local government, or are just curious how it all works? CEA might be right for you.
Program objectives:
- Introduce a broad spectrum of residents to City leaders and departments to build relationships and improve civic engagement
- Make City government better understood and more easily accessible
- Acquaint residents with municipal leaders and the departments they serve
- Close the gap between what you think we do and what we do
- Showcase how departments enhance quality of life, are responsible and responsive to citizens, and welcome positive involvement from the community
The spring 2026 cohort will feature new topics about our city, and how we can best take care of it.
Spring 2026 cohort topics + dates
Classes will be held weekly on Tuesdays from 6-8PM.
- March 10: Orientation/How Our City Operates
- March 17: Our City Growing
- March 24: Our City Safe, Secure & Responding
- March 31: Our City at Work at City Hall
- April 7: Our City Maintaining
- April 14: Our City Engaging
- April 21: Our Community Resources
- April 28: Graduation
