A groundbreaking was held in Athens last week for a new retail project, bringing more local shopping options for the city. The center, called Athens Marketplace, will be built behind the Wendy’s near I-65.

What will Athens Marketplace look like?

Athens Marketplace will include an all-new TJ Maxx, Ross Dress for Less, Ulta, Five Below and Rack Room Shoes. Retail research conducted by the city indicated that Athens has a considerable lack in discount department clothing stores, something the local population has brought to the city’s attention.

Between these five stories, the project will generate an estimated 125 new jobs.

“This brings several additions of new retail stores in our community that the citizens have been requesting for years. This project will also provide job opportunities for residents in our community and boost the City’s economy. We are so thrilled Noon Real Estate, LLC, is making a huge investment in our community.”

Pammie Jimmar, Chamber President, Athens, AL

The project is expected to generate annual taxable sales of approximately $20 million.
